In de laatste nieuwsbrief (http://www.goldmund.com/news/) van Goldmund is te lezen dat vanaf Januari 2005 ook de SR-lijn eindversterkers voorzien zullen worden van digitale ingangen. De versterkers worden uitgerust met het Alize-4 D/A circuit. Voordeel hierbij is de totale digitale verwerking van bron -> pre/pro -> versterker.

Met de uitbreiding van de SR-lijn zijn alle Goldmund versterkers nu digitaal aan te sturen, de mogelijkheid tot analoog aansturen blijft voorlopig behouden.

Tevens is er een foto te zien van de nieuwe Telos 600 mono eindversterker, dit wordt zeer waarschijnlijk de vervanger van de huidige Mimesis 29.4 mono eindversterkers.

Prijzen nog niet bekend

Zeer interessant ook voor de mensen met Meridian processoren...  8) :)

Er zijn wat meer gegevens bekend over de Goldmund Telos-600. Het is inderdaad de vervanger voor de Mimesis 29.4 mono eindversterkers geworden met het allernieuwste JOB-5 circuit. Prijs nog niet bekend maar wel wat details:

Ook meer nieuws over de digitale versie van de eindversterker uit de SR-lijn van Goldmund.

De nieuwe versterker gaat onder de noemer SR-150 door het leven en heeft dezelfde kenmerken als de "oude" SR-2.3 eindversterker. De aanvulling op de SR-150 t.o.v. de SR-2.3 is de aanwezigheid van een digitale ingang met een "Alize-4 circuit".
Prijs ook hier nog niet bekend.

De Goldmund SR-2.3 stereo eindversterker is niet meer leverbaar. Deze is vervangen door de SR-150 met digitale ingangen.

Prijs van der SR-150 is ondertussen bekend: € 4.000,-.
Prijs van de (stereo) digitale input module voor de oudere versterkers: € 1.150,-
Prijs van de Telos-600 mono eindversterker is ook bekend: € 15.000,- per stuk

Goldmund gaat de huidige multiplayer Eidos-18 vervangen door een opvolger, het wordt de Eidos-19 en deze speler gaat ongeveer € 8900,- kosten

Since its introduction 3 years ago the Eidos 18D has been the champion of the Eidos line, combining exceptional DVD Video with ultra-silent and dynamic CD and SACD playback. The Research developped around the new Eidos Reference and Eidos 36 shown us that further improvement was possible, both in Video and Audio quality. The improved model will be so much more advanced we decided to rename him Eidos 19. Modifications are essentially mechanichal, with much increased rigidity of the transport mechanism and the introduction of the Goldmund "Magnetic Damper". Outside connectivity will sacrifice to the trend in offering HDMI digital Video output instead of DVI, but that's all, the rest remaining unchanged.
Externally, the unit will be barely distinguishable from the Eidos 18D it replaces and its price will remain also unchanged.

Its affordable price and battleship construction will use a new transport mechanism, considerably reinforced for rigidity, and will embody much improved mechanical grounding. With an increased efficiency AC-Curator circuit built-in, it guarantees optimum reading of the CDs and SACD.

Goldmund heeft een vervanger op de markt gebracht voor de SRM-2.3 mono eindversterker, het is de SRM-250 geworden en heeft als extra een digitale ingang. De behuizing is gehalveerd in omvang.
Prijs in Nederland nog niet bekend (de SRM-2.3 was € 3000,- per stuk)

Dit systeem kan gekozen worden als twee- kanaals of als meerkanaals systeem.
Als bron zal een geheel nieuw ontwikkelde dvd / cd speler fungeren.
De voorversterker / processor is óf een tweekanaals voorversterker of een meerkanaals processor.
U kunt in geval u met de meerkanaals versterker werkt, starten met twee luidsprekers en later uitbreiden met center en achterluidsprekers en subwoofer.Alle luidsprekers zullen zeer compacte actief versterkte luidsprekers zijn met digitale ingang.

Goldmund komt met een nieuwe / goedkopere productlijn genaamd "Metis".

CiteerGoldmund has shown in Las Vegas at the last CES prototypes of a new line of mini products called the Metis Line. These smaller components preamps, CD/DVD player, active speaker and Server were all displaying as a main feature their extreme technology and affordable price, below the SR line.
Usually cheaper components made by a High-end manufacturer are recognizable by their made-in-China cheap construction and poorer performance. Not here.
First the Metis components presented were all fully handcrafted in Switzerland by the same factory as the other Goldmund products, hand soldered, using the same sophisticated metal treatment process and extreme mechanical precision.
More, their technology was pushed to new limits, with 2 x Telos amplifier circuit in each speaker, more DSP power in the Metis 10, the 10-channel preamplifier of the line, than in a Mimesis 24 and a new level of miniaturization never achieved before.
And that's the secret. By the hyper-concentration of their technology, we were able to considerably reduce the cost without sacrifying any level of performance. Smaller size means also less metal and that's a huge cost reduction (see below).
These new components planned to arrive this summer will exclusively be sold in Goldmund Boutiques and not through the old distribution network. Do not expect to see them everywhere.
Very affordable, practical to use, extremely simple to install, they display the large advance Goldmund has now achieved in audio technology and will be our best technology window ever.

CiteerOur first image showing the new turntable with its electronic boxes. The 2 separate boxes are the System Power Supply and the Goldmund PH8 Phono stage on which a few details already been given on the Goldmund Blog but nothing been officially published so far, until the design is more advanced.
Only few details already known seem to be secure enough :
First the electronic boxes may be located in the system, far away from the turntable itself. The connection of cartridge signal being made in the digital domain, it may be extended without detrimental effects. On the contrary, if an analogue output is used from the PH8 Phono Preamp, it maybe important that this connexion is short and the Phono Preamp located close to the main preamplifier. This is why the Phono Preamp looks like a regular Goldmund unit, designed to be located in the system rack. Obviously from this drawing it uses a complete Mechanical Grouding design so it may be stacked with other Goldmund Ultimate line components.
On the contrary, the Power Supply unit groups all the devices that must be put away from critical signal units like the turntable itself but also the other electronic components. So be careful the image is giving you the wrong feeling. We also know that the connection will also be long enough to locate the Power Supply far away.

Compared with the Telos 400, the Telos 200 is slightly smaller but keeps the same shape, the only noticeable difference being its internal heatsink. Same inputs and outputs, same specs except maximum power. So you know it already.

Specs:

power: 5000W @ 2 ohms 2500W @ 4 ohms 1250W @ 8 ohms

Distorsion independent from frequency (no distortion rise in high frequency) et independent from Output Power.

Capability to limit the Output Power depending on the connected Speaker with independantly adjustable limit for instantaneous and average without limiting the amplifier dynamic capability (this is why an amp with "too much power" is needed). The amp shuts off the output if the power is above, with a capability to measure the output current, output voltage and power (analogue calculator).

New Needed Technologies :

The Amp is made of 2 amps connected in symmetrical bridging (new Goldmund schematics) but with a common power supply to avoid dynamic losses. The bridge mode is needed to lower the power rail voltages to optimize performances of the output stages.

Goldmund Cascode Output stage. -> To lower non-linearities proportional to voltage applied on output transistors. Using HF Op-amps (GBW > 300MHz) to adjust Bias of the cascode stage with local feedback, in order to increase linearity of the output stage without increasing global Feedback.

Goldmund New Class A : The Output devices are never OFF but chnage from Followers to Current Sources -> Dramatic lowering of the output stage distortion depending on Power and Output Current. Cancellation of the Switchoff distortion and near cancellation of the crossover distortion. Adjustmant of bias and current in the "Current Source" mode independantly, allowing optimization of the output stage to literally remove intermodulation and harmonic distortion. Using ultra-stable voltage references with ultra-low noise as well as network of ultra-fast diodes associated with High Freaquency Op-amps to adjust the Bias.

Driver stage based on High-Frequency Operational amplifiers (GBW > 300MHz), allowing a complete isolation of the Output stage from the Gain stage. Increase of the global bandwidth and improvement of stability. Complete insensitivity of the Input stage from variation of Power, Local Feedback increasing linearity without using large global feedback.

Multiplication of output transistors (80 output devices per amplifier) to further minimize non-linearities in the Output stage. This is made possible thanks to the new driver stage. It was impossible before without taking out too much current on the input stage, producing a global degradation.

Floating Power Supply for the Driver stage and the cascode stage polarization, depending of output voltage -> Allows to use HF op-amps ultra-linear who cannot afford too high voltage power supply.
   
Optimization of input circuitry ausing stabilized current sources with ultra-low noise.
Power-suply shutdown protection circuit as in the Telos 600, ultra-fast, using NMOS transistors.
Main Power supply using 20 x 10'000uF 100V capacitors, made by Epcos in their new 106 Series with ultra-low serial impednace < 0.5 milli-ohm. Using also multiple capacitors very close from output devices and mixing Epcos 106 and Wima polypropylene MKP10 series. Main Transformer bloc with de 10 x transformer 500VA for the Main Voltage

High Voltage stabilized Power supply for the entry stage with double regulation and using ultra-low noise voltage references. Separate transformers.

Alize 6 with double dynamics new Goldmund D/A circuitry.

Dit geeft voor mij echt het gevoel dat Goldmund weet waar ze mee bezig zijn.
Alles is idd meetbaar. Meetapparatuur is vele malen nauwkeuriger dan het menselijk gehoor. Diegene die het tegendeel beweerd moet idd maar eens terug naar school ;)

Niet nauwkeuriger, maar voor het doeleinde wel beter.
Met mijn eigen gehoor kan ik n.l. bepalen of ik iets goed vind klinken, en dat kan ik niet afleiden uit een stapel meetrapporten.

Een versterker bijvoorbeeld heeft slechts alleen de functie het binnenkomende signaal versterkend weer te geven zonder kleuringen en bijverschijnselen o.i.d.
Wellicht dat het hier van toepassing is ;)

Afgelopen week de Mimisis 9 in combinatie met Tannoy Kingdom gehoord.
Die eindtrap leverde echt een subliem geluid  :D
Zag dat ie nu in de aanbieding is voor 3000 euro ??

Dat heb ik niet gezegd. Ik heb wel gezegd dat de stelling 'Everything is measurable' volslagen nonsens is. Naar mijn bescheiden mening bestaat de goede instelling bij AV-fabrikanten er dan ook uit om degelijke metingen te combineren met luisteren. Dit doet Goldmund trouwens zelf ook (staat te lezen in diezelfde tekst). Want als alles inderdaad meetbaar zou zijn, waarom zouden ze in hemelsnaam nog tijd spenderen aan luisteren? Heel wat dingen zijn inderdaad meetbaar, maar lang niet alles. En de dingen die niet meetbaar zijn, moeten de fabrikanten dan maar 'op het gehoor' uitvogelen.

Een voorbeeldje uit een andere sector om in dat verband eens aan te denken: Voor de ontwikkeling van de geigerteller was radioactviteit niet meetbaar. Betekent dat dan dat radioactiviteit niet bestond vooraleer de passende meetapparatuur was uitgevonden? I'm afraid not.

En nu we toch bezig zijn, de uitspraak 'Send them back to school' vind ik behoorlijk misplaatst. Waarschijnlijk doelen ze daarmee op fabrikanten die alles op het gehoor doen en geen meetapparatuur gebruiken. Maar dan nog is dat soort op de borst klopperij ongepast en al helemaal als ze zelf beweren in diezelfde tekst dat ze bescheiden zijn. Bescheiden? Mijn g.t!

Ik laat de uitspraak of Goldmund al dan niet een echt topmerk is graag in het midden. Qua prijsstelling zijn ze in ieder geval wel absolute top. Maar of ze dat ook kunnen waarmaken?

Een heleboel zaken zijn dus (nog) niet meetbaar, een uitspraak die van toepassing is voor een heleboel sectoren, niet alleen AV. Iemand die het tegendeel beweert en dit ook kan waarmaken, staat op het punt om een zeer rijk man te worden, want de fabrikanten zullen in bosjes komen smeken om die ongelofelijke know-how te kopen! O0

I couldn't resist posting this photo, not of a product, but of photos of a product, just to get Mikey Fremer all riled up about the fact that the Continuum Caliburn turntable, for which he forked out mucho dinero, is no longer the Big Dog of LP playback.
The Goldmund Reference II celebrates 25 years since the introduction of the original Reference. Just five will be made each year, according to Goldmund's Michel Reverchon when I spoke with him at the company's Bellagio suite, and 2007's production has already been spoken for. And yes, it will cost $300,000.

The Reference II, which, like its illustrious ancestor, includes a high-mass plinth, will accommodate three conventional tonearms. However, Goldmund is working on an optical pickup/arm, which will incorporate a high-performance A/D converter at the headshell. This will not be available for some time, probably not until 2008.

After slightly disclosing the specs of a Telos 5000, there was a big demand on this amplifier that our Goldmund companies received from enthusiastic audiophiles.

We are affraid you all will have to report the unavoidable truth : it will be completely extravagant in price too. Nothing close to the Telos 2500, that will remain our unique top amplifier for years to come.

A pair of Telos 5000, handmade in extremely small number (maybe something like 10 pairs total), is planned to cost more than a Ferrari, more than a Reference II and at least 2.5 or 3 times more than a pair of Telos 2500. In addition production will be made unit by unit and individually adapted to the user exact speaker. It will not be "available" on the market but only a very exclusive subscription-based offer. We do not plan to have it in our price list as a standard product, as for the Reference II.

Your customers have to understand we do it as a research tool, like a Formula 1 car, and that the cost cannot be considered as "rational". Creating completely new technology, where fundamental Physiscs is involved, is not sensible economically and we will make a few of them only to share our pleasure of achieving such results. It remains probable that we will loose money in making them, even at such a price.

So please refrain the enthusiasm of audiophiles. Very possibly in a few months or rather years, some of the new development we did for the 5000 will be declined down to "normal" amps, like the Telos 2500 or even 600. So they will get the sonic benefit as soon as we can "domesticate" the monster's most standard organs.

Sorry for the disappointment it may create...

Via de importeur gehoord dat de Eidos 19 combi speler opgevolgd gaat worden door de Eidos 20, deze speler zal meer "mechanical grounding" technieken uit de duurdere serie gebruiken.

De Metis serie (nieuwe instap serie van Goldmund) is onderweg, de processoren van Goldmund (SR-8, Mimesis 30 en Mimesis 24) worden ook vernieuwd. De nieuwe processor uit de "Ultimate" lijn krijgt maar liefst het tienvoudige aan reken capaciteit dan wat er momenteel in de Mimesis 24 zit. Deze extra reken power is nodig om het "Leonardo (http://www.goldmund.com/technology/leonardo/)" correctie programma te kunnen gebruiken

When the first prototype of the Telos 5000 was assembled last month in Geneva, it appeared that the mechanical construction was too tight to let an easy access for assembling or disassembling it. So the monster structure grew again, by 10 cm in height this time. Weight will finally be over 100kg, something we tried to avoid, but which is necessary to maintain rigidity and a perfect mechanical grounding construction.
In the meantime we are close to be sold out and have already more than 15 pairs ordered for 2008, which is close to the maximum we can produce in a year. The "small baby" has to be assembled one by one due to its size and it takes more than a week to finish one�

We just received the first pictures of the T8, still a prototype, but showing better the way it will look on the Reference 2.
The news from the development team is that the T8 mechanics are ready but not the driving software and that the software development is a huge task that may need a few months to be completed.
Among the few new "sexy features" announced recently : the remote control operation during playback of not only the Vertical Tracking angle but also the oil damping of the arm� Something we believe was never achieved before.

Goldmund heeft wat afbeeldingen van de nieuwe "Metis" serie op het internet gezet.
De Metis serie wordt een voor Goldmund begrippen zeer betaalbare lijn die onder de SR-serie komt. De techniek in de Metis preamp is volgens de importeur vrijwel gelijk aan de huidige "universal preamps" van Goldmund, de bestaande modellen worden echter ge-upgrade om het mogelijk te maken alle nieuwe technieken zoals Leonardo (http://www.goldmund.com/technology/leonardo/) toe te passen. Hiervoor is zeer veel processor capaciteit benodigd voor alle berekeningen.

After the remarkable success received by the first Eidos 20 delivered last year (one dealer even wrote us "We are really very enthusiastic!! What a performance!") we received so many orders that the product is not only our current best seller but also in waiting list up to May 2008.

The wonderful noise generated by the forums about our DVD Players is certainly part of the effect.
In fact we love these guys... They made so much noise that everybody inquires about our now-famous DVD machines!
To help them, we are even showing below the inside of an Eidos 20 so they don't have to buy one to know what's inside. We even included the reference of all the Pioneer parts we use, aren't we nice?

We also had an interesting reaction from some far-east customers who were finding the Eidos 20 too shallow and complained. So, we explained that the purpose was to minimize the HDMI path, a way we found to considerably increase the performance over our previous models.

Now, as the cherry on the cake, is coming our new model and our first gift for the new year, unexpected only a few weeks ago and that we pre-announced only in early January to our best distributors : The Eidos 20BD Blu.
Yes, it is a Blu-Ray machine, even if also a universal player.

Reken daar maar niet op, ik denk niet dat SACD en/of DVD-A in een blu-ray speler komt.
Ik heb daar laatst als eens iets over gelezen. Kan het niet terughalen....

Vandaag even bij de importeur geweest, verwachte prijs voor de nieuwe Eidos 20 Blu Ray speler zal ergens rond de € 15.000,- liggen. Misschien komt er op termijn ook nog een Blu Ray versie van de SR-DVD welke een stuk goedkoper zal zijn maar nog steeds behoorlijk aan de prijs.

Tevens even geluisterd naar onderstaande set welke speelklaar stond:

• Goldmund Eidos 20 combispeler
• Goldmund SR-8 universal preamplifier
• Goldmund SR-150 stereo eindversterker
• Wilson Audio Sophia-2 luidsprekers

Kort en krachtig: mooie combinatie dit alles bij elkaar al was de SR-150 in mijn beleving de zwakste schakel, met een zwaardere versterker zou het laag denk ik wat krachtiger zijn.

Heb inderdaad ook nog gevraagd naar het multispeler verhaal, importeur wist het eerlijk gezegd ook niet maar de verwachting is van wel. Zodra ik meer weet zal ik het hier melden

Dus in mindere mate te gebruiken als high-end CD loopwerk...
Dat is toch wat ik graag zou willen zien! High-end CD/DVD/BR loopwerk! Wellicht komt dat nog, het is wel de eerste high-end merk welke zover is met een BR speler.

Volgens een verontwaardigde reactie op een ander forum zou de Eidos, gelet op de foto's van het interieur, "een Pioneer met een ander lade" zijn. Dus als die Pio BR-spelert geen DVD-A doet, dan ook de Eidos niet... Overigens neem ik aan dat Goldmund nog wel 'iets' meer heeft gedaan dan een ander loopwerkje in de Pio, plus een sjiekere kast.  ;)

edit: na enig gegoogle kwam ik op de Goldmund website. Daar staat een plaatje van het inwendige van de Eidos 20 ("it is a Blu-Ray machine, even if also a universal player." Dus óók SACD en DVD-A).
De 2 grootste prints en het loopwerk zijn van Pioneer. 1 printje (zo te zien voor de bediening) komt van Goldmund zelf, evenals de kast, de transportla (niet het loopwerk) en de transformator.... Of die paar wijzigingen het prijsverschil rechtvaardigen mag gelukkig iedereen voor zichzelf bepalen.

Ik had ook echt niet verwacht dat een firma als Goldmund een blu-ray player vanaf de grond had opgebouwd. Dat kost gewoon echt veel geld en kennis, wat kleine high-end firma's gewoon niet hebben. Ik verwacht zelfs dat de bediening net zoals de pioneer is, en dat die print ergens anders voor is, voor de kwalitatief betere aansluitingen bijvoorbeeld.

Oh ja, zeker een absurde prijs voor een speler in een tijdperk dat net dit type hardware zeer snel verouderd. Het zou pas leuk zijn als men iets dat even krachtig is als de ps3 als basis gebruikt hebben. En dan helemaal stil en audiofiel gemaakt.

We heard it mentioned several times already by the Goldmund development team, but it is now more clear that the final D/A used in the Telos 5000 will NOT be an Alize 6 but something far more sophisticated (tentatively called Alize 7 only to differentiate it). Using the same dynamic enhancement principle as the Alize 6 but with a much better jitter rejection and an even higher dynamic range, it should be another step ahead in sound quality.

What the first units of the Telos 5000 are clearly showing is that this new D/A circuit is far too large to be lodged in a Telos 600 and 2500.

However, it is logical to think that a monoral Alize 7 D/A converter unit could be announced before the end of the year, providing a logical step ahead for customers still using a separate D/A after their CD player.
In addition, it would be the ultimate upgrade for a Telos (except the 5000 and the other Telos already upgraded with an Alize6) in a digital driven system.

3D movies have been experimented for decades in movie theaters with various fortunes. Recently however, serious producers and serious technological improvements have given hope for the future of 3D.

The Goldmund Media Room being a place where films are supposed to be better than in the best movie theaters, Goldmund started last year to investigate this controversial technology.

Today it is clear there is no serious technological difficulty to project a 3D film in a Goldmund Media Room. Double scan speed is only a minor change in Video projection equipment and the currently developed Video gear may integrate it quite easily in their specs.

The source to play for 3D film being mostly computer, this matches fine with the solution of the Goldmund film server, making a seamless transition between 2D and 3D films a reasonable expectation. The final solution is expected to be demonstrated next year.

Only glasses remain problematic. Not for technological reasons. After all, polarized glasses are already quite common. But for style ! Imagine Goldmund aluminum, mechanically grounded perfect glasses!

Nee, dat had ik ook niet verwacht. De chips worden maar door een paar fabrikanten gemaakt. Maar dat betekent niet dat je aan de boards helemaal niks kan doen. Als je die kennis niet in huis hebt dan huur je die in - dat daaraan dan een prijskaart hangt is logisch. Maar het is merkwaardig dat Goldmund niets meldt over enige modificatie van die boards. Ik kan me nauwelijks voorstellen dat ze voor die paar veranderingen aan een Pioneer zoveel meer geld vragen.  :-[ Dus ze zullen er toch nog wel meer aan gesleuteld hebben. Hoop ik.  :-X

You already heard the remarkable progress achieved using the Alize 6 upgrade in a Telos 600 or 2500. The higher dynamics and lower noise floor are creating an ambience and a precision never achieved before in digital.

Despite this achievement, Goldmund decided to push the research more on the D/A circuitry and the unit we are finally putting inside the Telos 5000 is another big step ahead.
Far too large to fit inside the Telos 600 or 2500, it was planned to remain the privilege of the Telos 5000 only.
Yes, but...

Since we are curious, we made a stand-alone version of this Alize 7 to include it in our listening sessions. And the result passed all our expectations. With the 3 stages of the Alize 7, the effect of the enhanced dynamics is even more dramatic. For this circuit, our engineers also added a higher-accuracy clock and further improved the jitter rejection stage, especially at lower frequency, where jitter is quite difficult to suppress.

The sonic progress is so dramatic that we decided last week to make it a new stand-alone machine: It will be called Mimesis 20, as the best D/A memories for an audiophile. But this time it will be called the Mimesis 20.7 of course and it will be only sold as a mono unit.
As a stand-alone mono unit it provides the ideal solution to input directly in analogue an existing Telos (all models, except the 5000 that already has it built-in).
We only had in our lines the Digin96 to do so and this was only an Alize 4.5. So, the improvement in such an application is of course fantastic.

For the passionates that continue to use a D/A only as a conversion unit for their CD player, 2 of the Mimesis 20.7 will be without par and a formidable improvement in their system.

With this new unit and the currently proposed Alize 6 upgrade for the Mimesis 20M (assembled by our Japanese distributor and sold only in Japan), Goldmund proves once again its care for the most discriminating analogue users.

Goldmund komt met nieuwe processoren inclusief "room correction"

The result of that development is that the missing link in a top system, meaning the Room Acoustics itself, is now addressed in the most professional way by Goldmund.

The first application is clearly the Goldmund Media Room, which simply became possible thanks to the Proteus development. The spectacular results obtained in a Media Room proved that it was not a small step in the system�s global result.

But even more interesting, there is no fundamental reason why the best Audiophile systems installed around the world by Goldmund could not benefit of it as well. A completely new application of the Goldmund Processors developed by the Goldmund R&D team, the Goldmund Mythos 2 brings revolutionary new sound-processing capability to the most advanced audiophile analogue systems. The most awaited products of the last few years, the Mimesis 16, will finally hit the shelves by October in its first version. We believe it is not only the best preamplifier ever made by Goldmund but a serious sign of the times to come.

In performance first, the Mimesis16 A/D version is of the Alize 7 family, using multiple A/D to increase its dynamic range and providing also the phase linearity of the now famous Alize 7 D/A circuit.

The Mimesis 16 simplicity for the end-user is also a serious progress over our previous generations, making it the most user-friendly preamplifier made by Goldmund. It is also in considerable progress for the facility of installation and tuning, even when using complex filtering configurations.

But the real step ahead lies in the DSP capability, with the associated configurator. It is now allowing each speaker�s driver to be separately adjustable in frequency response, phase response and time response and to introduce the Leonardo correction to compensate for any built-in crossover.

With the coming acoustic corrections brought by our Proteus software, its room correction capability will make the Mimesis 16 a revelation in all systems.

We have to stop a forum�s rumor that ran fast these last weeks announcing new speakers from Goldmund ( a rumor probably based on the Epilogue 1 Signature announce) using one ceramic midrange.
Not true. And for a few serious reasons.

First the ceramic drivers we have tested have all serious frequency response flaws outside their bandwidth. If the driver is used properly, this can be made acceptable by filtering it strongly as many manufacturers have already proved.
But it is a totally different story when correcting the time domain, something that Goldmund does consider essential and the main reason of the �lifelike� Goldmund sound. The faults exhibited by the ceramic drivers (due to the sharp resonance of their membrane at high frequency), makes them difficult if not impossible to correct in time response.

Probably worse, they do not take well strong accelerations! Yes, you heard us. Acceleration! What Goldmund electronics do more than any other electronics is hyper-fast acceleration! Imagine the disaster in reliability we could get.

So no, do not believe this rumor. We have tested in depth this type of driver and appreciated its quality but it is not good enough for us, so we won�t use them.

Goldmund has built its reputation of competence in the Digital Audio domain with two major steps in the D/A converter technology, the Mimesis 10 in 1990 and the Mimesis 20 in 1997.

Since those models, no separate outboard D/A converter has been developed but the D/A technology progressed continuously with the Alize 3, Alize 4, Alize 5 and Alize 6 circuits., all incorporated in the power amplifiers of the company.

Today, the latest generation of D/A developed by Goldmund has been created to equip the Telos 5000, the most advanced amplifier of the company.

To let the traditional users of an outboard D/A converter benefit of the new development, Goldmund announced in June 2008 the Mimesis 20.7, a mono D/A converter equipped with the exact same Alize 7circuit found in the Telos 5000.

The Alize 7 circuit uses the technology of stepped D/A already found in the Alize 6 but with a much more extended dynamic range (>130dB), and a perfect time alignment correction. The sonic effect is a much deeper silence, with greatly improved micro-dynamics and a spectacular transparency.

The Mimesis 20.7 is a mono unit, not only to maximize its dynamic range but also to allow multi-channel system users to match exactly the number of amplifiers they are using.
The Mimesis 20.7 provides unbalanced Spdif and balanced XLR inputs and outputs for the digital signal as well as balanced and unbalanced analogue outputs. The balanced and unbalanced inputs are selectable on the rear panel.

Today, being global is not only trendy, it is a Must.

Even if the Goldmund Eidos 20 BD was clearly the most accurate Blu-ray player and had been celebrated as such all around the world, especially in the Media Room demos we made in Los Angeles, it suffered so far of a serious limitation by being reading only the USA zone´s discs, both Blu-rays and DVDs.
This is over.

Before introducing some of the new products presented at the Goldmund House, we would like to specifically highlight two fundamental events:


Thanks to the Geneva Support Team led by Dr. Veronique Adam, the Goldmund House Media Room underwent a complete re-configuration in only one and a half days.

For the first time ever, this re-configuration, computed by the Proteus software, was implemented without any further tuning. The feedback from our visitors was universal acclaim and astonishment at accuracy and power of the sound reproduction.

The new U-Telos amplifier (Telos circuit, 1 or 2 channels, higher power and built-in DSP circuit) and the new U-Logos1 speaker (with Epilogue tweeter, digital crossover and improved rigidity) also play their part in allowing the most recent Goldmund Media Rooms to reach the sound transparency and delicacy of the most advanced traditional audiophile systems.

The third generation of Goldmund Media Rooms has now come fully to life, providing the highest audio and image quality to the most exclusive and demanding public.


Goldmund introduced a pre-release version of the new Proteus 5 software, and presented it within a traditional Goldmund system. This demo was made using a pair of Epilogue 1 Signature Speakers, each with an Epilogue 2 subwoofer, a Mimesis 16 pre-amplifier and six Telos 600 amplifiers. Again the demonstrations were received to universal acclaim. The system had never sounded so right. The demonstrations proved once again the similarity in extreme-performance of Goldmund Media Rooms and full-size Goldmund traditional systems, only differing by location of their electronics (within Media Room walls v. traditional display).

Initially developed for the Media Room, the Proteus software is probably the most advanced technology ever developed by Goldmund. It allows your Goldmund speaker output to be ideally placed (even if that's not physically possible), properly corrected and pre-conditioned. Proteus overcomes the acoustic challenges of your listening room.

The extremely advanced Proteus modeling software has now been considerably improved and its user interface simplified so it can be used by your trained local Goldmund representative to generate a room correction program. Once loaded into one of the new Goldmund preamplifiers (Mimesis 16 or Mimesis 32),or into the Mythos 2 (see the new products below) the program corrects the room acoustics so you can at last hear the perfection of your Goldmund system even in an imperfect room. Its extreme scientific accuracy (no measurement or tuning necessary) distinguishes it completely from other existing correction systems, proving Goldmund major advance in the domain.

A Proteus corrected system will have absolutely no equivalent (both in 2-channel and multi-channel) providing a kind of sonic realism that can only be achieved by high quality audio elements.

We wanted to thank all our Distributors and Dealers as well as the journalists who travelled long distances to attend the Goldmund Open House Days and look forward to having the pleasure of welcoming them all again next year.


Several new products were presented at the open house this year, amongst which the Eidos Reference Blue, a limited series (50) reference edition providing the playback of BluRay discs in addition to the DVD and CD playbacks of extreme quality already present in its famous predecessor the Eidos Reference.

Preamplifiers also held the stage. In addition to the currently-available Mimesis 16, the company will introduce in 2009 three new preamplifiers to provide the DSP power needed for its most advanced acoustic correction programs such as Proteus and Leonardo.

The Mimesis 16 HD will extend the current model for the fanatics of the Home-Theater, providing HDMI input with full Dolby and DTS new HD formats (as soon as they really become available). Other specifications remain unchanged.

The Mimesis 88 will replace the SR8 with 10 output channels, a USB additional input for computer connection and a far easier-to-use configuration interface.

The Mimesis 32 will be the ultimate version of the new preamplifier family, succeeding the Mimesis 24. Much higher DSP power enables it to handle the most advanced configurations and its 3 x A/D converters of highest quality will allow all kind of possible connections both in 2-channel and Home-Theater environments.

And for the analog fanatics, Goldmund introduces the Mythos 2, with basically the same DSP power as a Mimesis 16 but designed to be included in a conventional analog system for speaker or room correction. With its 8 analog outputs, the Mythos 2 may also be used as an electronic crossover of the highest quality in systems of up to 4 outputs.

Thanks to the introduction of the Mythos 2, Goldmund provides all its most recent sound quality improvements for traditionalist analog-only systems, without generating any sound quality loss. Several additional products were presented to our distributors and dealers but the public will have to be patient and wait for our next newsletters to discover them!

The new Goldmund Mimesis 20.6 is a 2-channel D/A converter based on the Goldmund Alize 6 circuit. It is once again a serious improvement when compared to the Mimesis 20M, the latest high-quality D/A converter offered by the company a few years ago.

The good news is that the Alize 6 circuit is far less expensive but virtually as performing as the Alize 7 when used in a traditional analogue system to convert the output of a CD player. Why? Because the global level of noise and distortion in an analog system would make the additional dynamics of the Alize 7 practically inaudible.

The Mimesis 20.6 will be available next month for the pleasure of exacting technicians, musicians, and all amateurs who demand the very best in recording transcription.

CiteerSo how much does the ultimate media room cost? That depends on several factors, but it's certainly in the million-dollar neighborhood. Of course, you could set up a kick-ass home theater for a lot less, but you wouldn't get the custom-built components, craftsmanship, or attention to detail that Goldmund provides. The whole idea here is to have a custom media room built from the ground up by a single company that is responsible for the entire process, and that doesn't come cheap.

Alize 7 D/A Converter
The Alize 7 D/A Converter is a completely new design, which adds the dynamics from three of the best D/A chips in existence to create an incredible final resolution above 130dB. Input Circuit
The Input Circuit of the Telos 5000 amplifier is also completely new. Using 4 x Class A modules (completely NEW topology), the level of noise and distortion is reduced to levels never encountered before.

Output Circuit
The Output Circuit uses an incredible 72 Power Mosfets, which have been specially calibrated for the Telos 5000. A NEW type of cascade/bridged circuit increases the amplifier?s speed above anything ever achieved, even in the other Goldmund Telos amplifiers. It is powered by a phenomenal stack of 24 huge ultralow impedance filtering capacitors, which again are designed specifically for the Telos 5000 with a total value approaching 0.2 Farads.

Transformer Bloc
The Transformer Bloc uses 16 separate transformers that have been specially made in England for the Goldmund Telos 5000. It can develop close to 10000 Watts and is deeply moulded in an epoxy mix providing excellent vibration and noise reduction.

Protection Circuit
The Protection Circuit, which has been developed from the other Telos amplifiers, is actually faster so careful attention has been made to protect against any overload. This can be a very difficult task for such a fast amplifier, which is capable of delivering more than 200 amps in a few nanoseconds, but the Telos 5000 will protect any loudspeaker connected to it.

Build

The Telos 5000 weighs more than 260kg per piece and is housed in a beautifully elegant tower measuring 94 x 47 x 39 cm. Two sides are used for the cooling heat sinks and the hard brass construction pushes the Goldmund Mechanical Grounding construction and thermal grounding principles to levels never achieved before without any serious consideration for the associated cost.

Most of the 25 units have been pre-sold, so if you are interested in purchasing a pair of Telos 5000, we advise you to contact your authorized retailer as soon as possible.

Je hebt gelijk, zover had ik niet terug gekeken.

CiteerVandaag even bij de importeur geweest, verwachte prijs voor de nieuwe Eidos 20 Blu Ray speler zal ergens rond de € 15.000,- liggen. Misschien komt er op termijn ook nog een Blu Ray versie van de SR-DVD welke een stuk goedkoper zal zijn maar nog steeds behoorlijk aan de prijs.

CiteerFor nearly 20 years, we continuously explained that the age of making turntables and tone arms was history for Goldmund, and that today's market was insufficient to justify new developments. But audiophiles were regularly asking us for a strong come back and expecting us to finally give in.
The arrival, even if discreet, of the Reference II showed that nobody could get higher in performance than Goldmund. Nobody could get higher in price either, which prevented rumors about a possible come back on the vinyl market. Recently, the new "Goldmund T3 Support" that would allow owners of a T3 to mount it on the Reference II, could have been another proof that we were coming back - if it were not for the extravagant mechanical piece it was! Too crazy, once again.



But the bomb is coming! And it is a proof of the company's care for its vinyl collector customers. By September 1st, Goldmund will present a prototype of its T6 arm, a revival of the T3 design in a far more robust construction, usable on the new Reference II and also on the mythical original Reference. But we will even go further by announcing soon a radically new preamplifier technology developed by Goldmund exclusively for the amateurs of the black disc. And when Goldmund speaks about new electronics, people really start to listen...

The new generation of "Phono Preamps" will be far from what is usually offered, and in many respects. First of all, the new technology that will impressively improve analogue signal is 100% digital... (silence in the audience). But further, for the first time, the phase and time alignment of the output signal of a cartridge will be seriously taken into consideration. Completely neglected before, these parameters will be properly restored and the most accurate (sort of...) cartridges will be corrected. And yes, they dramatically needed it.

You will be flabbergasted by the quality it provides to your system and it will make you realize how much pleasure you were missing. In short, you won't forgive us for not having made it before...

Providing temperature uniformity and serious rigidity to avoid transformer vibration, the "Goldmund Potting" is recognized as a trademark and a serious advantage in mechanical grounding and silence of use. The Goldmund R&D introduced last month a new potting material which seriously improved this technology. Far more rigid, the new material guarantees a serious improvement of the mechanical grounding where it is the most needed. In addition, the temperature level of the polymerization process has been dramatically reduced, limiting the damage possible for the electronic components or the transformers included in the resin. And finally, the new resin is far cleaner, smooth and even in aspect so it may become possible to use a molded bloc as it comes out of the process, without the metal box that was needed to hide it and insure perfect mechanical integrity. In addition to be pretty clean in aspect, the new resin will provide an even better mechanical grounding. This is one of the technologies developed by Goldmund for its future lines of "Jewel Amps" (but you will know more about this later).

And now for something completely outrageous—a $135,000 Blu-ray player! Leave it to hyper-high-end Goldmund to charge that much for the Eidos Reference Blue, which will be limited to a production run of 50 units. But how can it possibly justify such an astronomical price tag?

Sure, it's built like a tank—the heavily damped, brass-and-aluminum mechanism weighs 66 pounds and is suspended by four spring-loaded legs on its own dedicated table. Also, the power supply is completely isolated from the mechanism, and something called Goldmund Magnetic Damping is said to greatly improve image stability and sonic transparency.

On the flip side, while Goldmund calls the Eidos Reference Blue a "universal" player, it can't play DVD-Audio or SACD. And the analog-audio outputs—one L/R pair and a 5.1 group—are unbalanced, which is ridiculous for such a pricey disc spinner. The owner's manual refers to secondary video and audio, but it says nothing about Internet access or BD-Live, which means this is a Profile 1.1 player, another inexcusable limitation.

Goldmund has always represented the extreme high end, at least in terms of cost, and many of its products are truly outstanding. The Eidos Reference Blue's performance might be exceptional, but at $135,000, it should offer all the features found in much less expensive players and then some. But hey, at least it comes with its own table!

It can handle 10 Leonardo, more than 50 filters, etc... The Goldmund Telos 250 is the new mono amplifier of the Goldmund "High-End" line. The Telos 250 replaces the Telos 200. Audiophile tuning, the artisan approach
Back in the 20th century, speakers were usually "designed" by talented audiophiles combining a small part of real technique (usually only for the crossover general shape and the bass loading) with a serious dose of hand tuning for the selection of the drivers and the cutoff/slope/level of each part of the crossover. The best "designers" were usually seen soldering resistors, capacitors or coils during long days (and nights) until their baby was up to their taste in its subjective restitution of a (arbitrarily) selected piece of (nobody knowing how accurately) recorded music.

Speaker modeling, the scientific approach (sort of)
The "Speaker Modeling" approach changed all that. Already used by the most advanced companies in the 90's, it allowed calculating the ideal crossover and bass load, as well as the enclosure dimensions, via a computer program, without touching a soldering iron. In addition to providing perfection in the frequency response (finally not so critical because its variation is a natural phenomenon), it also allowed to measure the phase response, a domain where a speaker, especially if using a passive or active crossover, seriously damages the propagation delay vs. frequency, something unaccounted for by mother nature. Alas, if any serious fault in the phase/time domain could be well measured during the modeling process, its correction was far from obvious and even the best speaker manufacturers were neglecting it, not being able to do anything to correct it inside their crossover.



This is why Goldmund developed Proteus, the only complete solution to control all the aspects of a speaker and making it ideally linear not only in amplitude but also in phase/time.

The importance of Time Distortion
Any limited-bandwidth device creates time distortion by modifying the propagation delay of a signal in the device in function of its frequency. This distortion is audible, but subjectively corrected by the brain, which "re-synchronizes" the different frequencies of the signal received by the ear until "recognition" is achieved. So it is easily neglected in subjective listening. Correcting it is only possible in the digital domain, using a sophisticated DSP program that Goldmund developed in 2004, as a world premiere, under the name of "Leonardo". The suppression of the Time Distortion is creating a "relaxing" effect to the brain, favoring its perception of more details and an easier localization of various sources in space. Everything happens as if the brain had been freed of a painful and continuous work, and had become more available for a better analysis of the received message.

The speaker acoustics, room acoustics potential control
Without the use of any passive crossover, the Goldmund Proteus solution integrally rebuilds the crossover in the digital domain, and locates it in one of its Universal Preamplifiers such as the Mimesis 16 or Mimesis 32. So, in a Proteus configuration, each power amplifier is directly attached to each driver, and not anymore through a passive crossover. Thanks to the direct low-impedance connection, some other characteristics are seriously improved as well, especially what is usually called the "Driver Control". The "Driver Control" describes the capability of a brute force amplifier to neutralize the natural resonances of a driver by "holding it" very tightly, blocking any overshoot (which also improves the driver reliability) or cone vibration not present in the amplifier-provided signal. Experimental results show that increasing the "Driver Control" to an extreme level neutralizes not only the driver vibration but also the induced enclosure coloration and even, to a certain degree, the room modes.

Conclusion
Interestingly, to reach the nearly perfect results that Proteus can achieve requires an agreement between the manufacturers of the electronics and of the speaker. Audiophiles enjoy buying those two parts of their system separately, and from different manufacturers... So Goldmund will have to deal with different speaker companies of similar caliber to be able to exploit this considerable progress in the speaker design technology. This implies very interesting collaborations with the companies who will want their speakers are transcended to their best potential.

Because demonstrations are the clearest and most objective proof of the performance of an audio product, especially when compared to other High End products in the industry.
Because many people write about Goldmund without having even heard our products. So why not end the blah blah and base critics on facts and experiences?
Because many people are interested in the technologies we have developed but would like to understand them better. We are receiving countless demands on this subject and want to address them. Brand new technologies take years to develop, they also take a long time to be understood, recognized and accepted.
Because, and for the same reasons, our distributors have difficulty to explain these technologies and this could only help their training.
The 2010 Goldmund tour is dedicated to those who want to obtain deeper insights into the scientific studies we make and the technologies that result of them. It is also for those who want to experience how these technologies serve the high quality standards our products deliver. Several types of demonstrations will be offered:

Comparative speaker demonstrations with and without the Proteus 2-channel technology. We will propose Goldmund speakers but also speakers from other brands that may be decided depending on their local notoriety.
Comparative demos / blind tests of the Telos power amplifiers compared to any (yes, any!) other locally successful power amplifier.
Blind tests between our Eidos disc players and any (yes, any!) other high end players of famous brands (Esoteric, Ayre, etc...).
Digital vs. analog systems blind tests. Like Mimesis 22 vs. Mimesis 32 driving a pair of Telos in a 2-channel system.

Like the former Mimesis 3, the Mimesis 29, or the Telos 600, the Telos 350 has all the features to become a milestone among the audio power amplifiers of the Goldmund lines.



The Telos 350 is built with a new full-aluminum Mechanical Grounding asymmetrical construction. This design allows keeping it at a reasonable size (and price) and makes it easily stackable. This was rendered necessary by the recent introduction of the 2-channel Proteus, a tremendous improvement in the driving of the best speakers, but one that requires several mono power amplifiers. This means that the price to pay to obtain Proteus was quickly becoming quite expensive for the amateur of complex speakers, not talking about the obtrusive space taken.



The Telos 350 real power will remain undisclosed... But the company says it will be much more powerful than a Telos 400 despite its reasonable price. Knowing that the Telos 600 has been recently discontinued, you may conclude that it can drive quite anything. In addition, the Telos 350 is the first amplifier that can be mixed with the existing Telos 2500, Telos 1000 or Telos 600 in a Proteus configuration, providing a substantial economy on large Proteus systems such as the Full Goldmund Epilogue. The Telos 350 can drive its tweeters and even the Epilogue 1 Signature woofers.



The internal circuit is seriously improved over the previous Telos and largely inspired by the recent Telos 5000, Goldmund masterpiece, and its future successor the Telos 3500 (more about this later). Using the same type of capacitors, a revised input circuit and no less than an Alize 6 D/A circuit, the only sacrifice on the Telos 350 is the suppression of the analog level control. Its approximate 3dB steps are rendered unnecessary by the easy adjustment to the half dB inside a Goldmund universal preamplifier. To improve the peace of mind of clients who use several Telos 350, its protection circuitry is the most advanced of any Telos amplifier so far; it makes it perfectly safe in case of short-circuit and many other typical electrical incidents.



Last, but not least, the Telos 350 provides an internal connection for an optional pluggable DSP board, just like the U-Telos amplifiers of the Goldmund Media Room. Connectable to a laptop by an USB connector, the future DSP board will allow Amplitude, Phase and Delay to be adjusted to set the Telos 350 in any configuration, including a complete Media Room environment.

Good News! The 32 and 16HD are now working in Multi-channel... This requires a board swap (easily installed by your Goldmund retailer). As explained before, this is because the Cirrus Logic DSP we use was wrongly advertised and finally proved unusable as it was recommended. The exchange board for existing Mimesis 32 users, as well as the complete Mimesis 32 and 16HD will all be available by end of March/beginning of April. The software we developed with the new board will process Dolby, DTS, AAC, PCM 2.0 and PCM 5.1, the new remarkable HD format. And this directly from digital coaxial or Toslink or from the HDMI splitter included in the 32 and 16HD. The less-satisfying Dolby True-HD and DTS HD will temporarily be fed in analog as in most systems today. We are waiting (again) for Cirrus Logic to be able to make their evaluation kit work to do it directly from the HDMI as well. When ready, this will be only a minor software upgrade, easily done with the new Goldmund Universal Configurator. We thank you for your patience.

A set of new Metis analog audio components has been created by Goldmund, replacing the company?s former SR line at even lower costs despite their much improved performance. Their Mechanical Grounding Construction is simply remarkable. In the new line, an analog Preamplifier and Power Amplifier, the Metis 2 and Metis 3, will remind the most knowledgeable audiophiles of the Mimesis 2 & 3, the first electronics introduced by the company in 1984. With their even better performance and a minimum form factor (30W x 30D x 5H cm), but also with the exceptional Goldmund metal finish and engraving, they will be the typical separates any young Goldmund amateur with a limited budget was looking for. The Metis 2 preamplifier provides 5 analog stereo inputs and ultra-linear volume control with the same circuitry as the Mimesis 27.5. A balance adjustment is even provided on the remote. A set of 2 analog RCA outputs serves as the preamplifier output. The Metis 3 Power amplifier is a stereo 2 x 150W Telos circuit providing exceptional dynamics to the most phlegmatic speakers. CiteerGoldmund Presents the Telos 352 and 353 Power Amplifiers
Goldmund is proud to present two new Telos Power Amplifiers: the Telos 352 (2 channels) and 353 (3 channels). They have been designed to support the Proteus 2-channel technology developed by Goldmund but can also be used as regular stereo or 3-channel amplifiers.

For those who are not familiar with Proteus, here is a short summary (white papers are available on request for science versed readers):

Proteus is a mathematical modeling technique created by the Goldmund fundamental research team led by Dr. Veronique Adam. It computes acoustic corrections that have the unique particularity of perfectly aligning the frequency response, the phase response and the time response of a speaker. This level of perfection has never been achieved before in any other existing Audio system. The corrections are included in a configuration file that is loaded inside the preamplifier and each driver is then amplified separately.

Although the performance of Proteus systems is nearly perfect, their disadvantage is the multiplication of the power amplifiers needed to drive the speakers and thus the cost.

The Telos 352 and 353 solve this cost problem by multiplying the number of amplification channels in one single amplifier case and with one single shared power supply. This makes them the ideal amplifiers for high end audio systems and for Media Room applications. These new amplifiers, like the Telos 350, can be mixed in complex configurations with the already existing Telos 2500, Telos 1000 or Telos 600 because they share the same group delay and the same sensitivity, also providing a substantial economy on large Proteus systems such as the Full Goldmund Epilogue.

If the Telos 352 has the exact same size and design as the Telos 350, the 353 is slightly higher, allowing the insertion of the board for the additional channel.

Telos 352 and 353 features:

Full-aluminum Mechanical Grounding Asymmetrical Construction: Visually surprising, the asymmetrical effect of having the heat sink on the right side and the weight concentrated on the front right foot proved remarkably efficient and allowed the size and weight of the amplifier to be seriously reduced without quality loss. This design also makes it easily stackable.

Internal Circuit: Using the same type of capacitors as the Telos 5000, a revised input circuit and no less than an Alize 6 D/A circuit, the only sacrifice on the Telos 352 and 353 is the suppression of the analog level control. Its approximate 3dB steps are rendered unnecessary by the easy adjustment to the half dB inside a Goldmund universal preamplifier.

Safety Features: To improve the peace of mind of clients who use several Telos 352/3, their protection circuitry is the most advanced of the Telos technology, just like in the Telos 350; it makes them perfectly safe in case of short-circuit and many other typical electrical incidents.

Optional DSP: Last, but not least, the Telos 352 and 353 provide an internal connection for an optional pluggable DSP board, just like the U-Telos amplifiers of the Goldmund Media Room. Connectable to a laptop by an USB connector, the future DSP board will allow Amplitude, Phase and Delay to be adjusted to set the Telos 352/3 in any configuration, including a complete Media Room environment.

Another new member of the Metis family will soon be available. The Metis One is a mono amplifier with digital and analog inputs.

Its nominal power is 150W. It is a small unit (200 W x 355 D x 50 H - mm) that can easily be included in any system. Its price will be announced soon and delivery is planned for November.

CiteerNew 3D Demo at the Goldmund House with a potential Metis Blu Ray player
On September 1st 2010 Goldmund presented in Los Angeles another 3D demo in the Metis Room of its demo house.

With an especially designed configuration allowing the Metis system to benefit from the latest Media Room innovations, the demonstration presented a spectacular 3D video experience. The exceptionally accurate sound system based on a Metis 10 preamplifier feeding 6 Metis active speakers and 2 Metis subwoofers was equalized in amplitude and in time and is today the most affordable completely accurate system offered by Goldmund.

The LED LCD 55" screen by Samsung was linked by HDMI 1.4 to a prototype of a potential Metis Blu-ray player built around a 3D Samsung Blu-ray player platform.

The system is a good example of today's extreme systems that can be easily installed in a living room or a bedroom without disturbing the daily lifestyle of many young couples or their decoration of the room.

These demonstrations, very simply controlled by the Mimesis 16 remote, present the various options now available to improve the best 2-channel systems.

Based on several Epilogue systems it is now very easy to demonstrate the successive steps of possible improvements:

1 - The simple mono-amping Epilogue 1
2 – The same but with the Leonardo correction of the Epilogue 1 crossover
3 – The Proteus-2ch Epilogue 1 Signature solution without Leonardo
4 - The Proteus-2ch Epilogue 1 Signature solution with Leonardo
5 – The Proteus-2ch Epilogue 1 Signature + Epilogue 2 Signature solution with Leonardo

By switching instantaneously between 2 solutions, the improvement is more than obvious for all listeners.

CiteerThe Mimesis 32: Latest Software Updates

The Mimesis 32 and the Mimesis 16 are receiving new software updates regularly. Here is a small point of the latest changes and current priorities for those who have lost track with the various recent releases.

1 – We continue improving the 2-channel possibilities of the Goldmund processors especially on their USB input quality and on the various Proteus configurations they can handle.

The USB input quality is now practically undetectable compared to the best players when receiving, for example, an Apple computer USB output. This is the beginning of a serious change in the favorite audiophile sources, allowing use of the best (and cheapest) media Servers like Apple iTunes to play music and movies even in the top systems, without sacrificing quality.

For Proteus, the major progress we made recently is the possibility to introduce extremely complex filters in the Proteus configuration. With the continuously growing quantity of r speakers from other manufacturers we can handle in Proteus (now 8 models and numerous more coming), some special crossover shapes were unable to be properly recreated with the previous software. A new version of the speaker modeling transfer to the Mimesis 32 now allows us to implement all these special filters, making the Proteus results even more spectacularly accurate. This will be demonstrated during the coming shows in Tokyo, Singapore and Seoul where such speakers will be powered by a Mimesis 32.

2 – In multi-channel applications like multi-channel Proteus systems and the Goldmund Media Room environment, we currently upgrade the software in many directions where the changes in film mixing and recent Blu-ray players create new demands.

The most significant multi-channel change occurring these days is the growing number of real 7.1 mixing available. The first Mimesis 32 software releases made the channel mapping difficult or even (with some players) impossible depending on their setup menu. This is now working fine with all the units we tested and we will improve even more the panning possibilities and accuracy in the next releases to come, especially for very large rooms using many speakers, by modifying the configurator.

We are also improving progressively the audio playback through HDMI, especially for real 5.1 or 7.1 PCM sound tracks, the most accurate existing, but also the most demanding, specifically appreciated in high quality concert recordings. The various difficulties we (as many other manufacturers) found in some set-up (especially cable contacts problems) may sometimes be eliminated by software duplication and re-routing without sacrificing bandwidth as it is more commonly made (you would not buy a Mimesis 32 if you do not get the best performance). We expect a lot from the recent appearance of HDMI cables using an active circuit, a more professional solution. We tested them recently and very successfully in our room in Los Angeles. It may be more effective for the Video signals than for Audio ones, but it finally seems to solve some of the impedance accidents created by bad contacts. We also work hard at limiting the operating delays of a Blu-ray / HDMI combination, but our results remain too modest for our taste.

As for the format processing, we have not yet decided if we will or not implement a processing of the HD formats inside our processors, as we thought necessary a year ago. Today we do not see any reason anymore. The quality of such processing is quite doubtful (introduction of down-sampling, etc...). Today it would be probably quite detrimental compared to the better and simpler bit reconstruction made in the Goldmund players to play the Dolby and DTS HD formats.

Considering that the coupling of an Eidos 20BD Blu-ray player (or the Eidos Reference Blue) associated with a Mimesis 32 or 16HD can play all existing formats with more accuracy than any other solution, our best installations around the world are now using that combination which would made other possibilities unnecessary, or even confusing.

However, some future players (they make them cheaper and cheaper, you know!) may provide a quality of Dolby Digital and DTS decoding insufficient for the best systems, especially when the CD and DVD discs are not treated by a separate player. Then, these formats will need to be treated inside the Mimesis 32 (remember that decoding Dolby Digital or DTS is a real decompression algorithm and far more demanding in software audio quality than the HD formats simple lossless reconstruction. And remember how Goldmund made its supremacy with those in the Mimesis 24!). We currently have this working as a test in our latest release and it is also working in our Media Room in Los Angeles with extremely satisfying results.

Future will tell how these needs evolve.

We recently announced a new Mimesis 22 History analog preamplifier, and to make the celebration complete, Goldmund also created the Mimesis 20 Historical D/A converter.

In 2001 the Mimesis 20M was already considered as the absolute D/A. The Mimesis 20 Historical is now a concentrate of the most advanced technologies ever developed by Goldmund. With a noise rejection even better than the Alize 7, a chassis built with the latest "Asymmetrical Mechanical Grounding" construction, the double AC-Curator introduced first in the Eidos Reference, and more internal adjustments than even the Mimesis 20.7, the Mimesis 20 History will without any doubt surpass the expectations of the most demanding audiophiles.

CiteerThe Biggest Proteus System Ever Installed

The biggest Proteus 2-channel system ever has recently been installed in Mr Chan's audio Room in Singapore . It includes 10 Telos 2500 and a Mimesis 32 powering a full Epilogue Signature. It is currently configured in 2-channel but the owner is already thinking of using Proteus Multi-channel by adding surround speakers and subwoofers. It is probably the best 2-channel system we ever heard so far. As in the other Proteus installations, the playback room acoustics and size completely disappear, leaving everything perfectly recreated in space. The sound is astoundingly natural and real thanks to the Leonardo correction included in the Proteus Software.

In November, High End Research participated to the Singapore Hifi Show where the team made several very important demonstrations showing the effects of Proteus 2-channel applied for the first time to speakers from other brands than Goldmund. The Sonus Faber Amati and the Wilson Sasha were driven by 6 Telos 250 and a Mimesis 32 loaded with a specific Proteus 2-ch for these speakers and including a complete Leonardo correction.

The sonic result was astonishing of clarity and preciseness on both speaker models and the playback level without distortion reached levels that certainly neither Wilson nor Sonus Faber ever heard.

10 as well) have received several new functions in 2010 and will continue to do so in 2011. All these updates will remain
only software and will be implemented by the Universal Configurator.
In 2011, new standard room acoustic software modules for multi-channel systems will be released to better control the room
resonance and reflections. And we should soon have a serious improvement of the 7.1 PCM playback, to match some of the
upcoming films and concerts (which, finally, will really be mixed in 7.1 after nearly 8 years of fake 7.1...) and new Blu-ray
machines now available with 7.1 PCM outputs.
Our new Universal Configurator will receive more and more functions and you can expect to see as many new versions as
there are improvements in the processors.
But the very good news is that the use of the Universal Configurator will also become much simpler, allowing complex
systems to be configured in a heartbeat.
2011 will certainly concur to the clear trend started in 2009 to make the players decode their specific formats more and
more and leave the acoustic processors with only the noble task of improving the sound of your room.
We could also see finally some attempts from the market to introduce real 3D audio formats, a subject very carefully studied
by the Goldmund Fundamental Research Department.

The Telos 153/154 Proteus Amplifiers: NEW

Two new Telos amplifiers will be born this year: the Telos 153 (3 channels) and the Telos 154 (4 channels).
These amplifiers have been created to function with Proteus in mid-range high end systems and will allow customera with a modest budget to benefit from the Proteus technology at a reasonable price.

They will have the size and look of a Telos 250 and avoid the loss of space due to the multiplication of power amplifier units required by Proteus.
They are available for order and will be delivered next December.

Ik ben bang dat dit geen groot succes gaat worden, is aan de specificaties te zien een Metis 10 in een andere behuizing, tevens geen HDMI in- / uitgangen...

Zou je denken.   Dan vraag ik me toch af waarom er zoveel kopers voor de Oppo BDP95 zijn.

Mooi spul dat Goldmund en ik hoor goede verhalen van forum lid Roderick. Het valt mij wel alleen op dat er wereldwijd bijna geen enkele review te vinden is over dit merk, of dat er over gesproken wordt.

Mooi spul Jan enkel het valt mij op dat er maar heel weinig over dit merk wordt geschreven. Bijna geen enkele review te lezen op internet.

Op de site zelf staan enkel magazines met reviews afgebeeld.

Op audiogon een enkele keer dat het veel te duur is voor wat het merk levert. Maar dit zijn persoonlijke meningen in het forum gedeelte van Audiogon.

@ Vik: Duur is het zeker, de laatste jaren enorm in prijs gestegen :-[
