Rumours are spreading like hot butter across the States that on the back of its target one million Zunes sold this summer, Microsoft is about to release the Zune 2.0.
Two models currently codenamed Scorpio and Draco have been mentioned, the first is touted as an 80GB gangbuster while the latter is more likely to be a cheaper Flash-based song spiller. According to US blogsite Whizbyte, direct quotes have come from Microsoft insiders stating, "Zune follows the cycle of the consumer electronics cycle so you can expect an update later this year prior to the holiday season".

The three areas they are looking to address are: adding new sizes, styles and price points to the device family; moving towards parity with the iPod in terms of video support, Podcasting and the like while building on the key differences like wireless music sharing and FM radio; and lastly the geographical markets where Zune's 'international footprint' will grow larger as varying markets are specifically tailored to in terms of features, pricing etc. We are also expecting to see firmware upgrade options available as automatic downloads when new software becomes available. But if they are following the same path as the iPod, is it only a matter of time before a Zune phone starts to pique peoples' interests?
