Goldmund komt binnenkort met een nieuwe eindversterker in de "reference" product lijn. Het wordt de TELOS-2500. Een opvolger voor de Telos-600 met meer vermogen in een behuizing van de beroemde "Millennium" eindversterker. Prijs nog niet bekend maar ongetwijfeld duur.

A new monster is born. Many of our faithful customers have already successfully adopted the Telos 600, with unanimous reception as the best amplifier ever made. However, a few also regretted the extraordinary work of art we made in the Millennium Mechanics and the corresponding authority provided by the ultimate "Mechanical Grounding" construction.

Like the Telos 600, the Telos 2500 is protected against gray market by the "Goldmund GPS" innovative protection which will stop your amp from working if you try to buy it from another country, on the bad excuse of a big discount (who is cheap enough or stupid enough to do so, we still wonder...). Nieuw Goldmund systeem in aantocht, link naar bron (Multifoon)

De feestelijke introductie van een nieuw Goldmundsysteem tijdens de Doelen Lente Hifi Show 2006.
Dit systeem kan gekozen worden als twee- kanaals of als meerkanaals systeem.
Als bron zal een geheel nieuw ontwikkelde dvd / cd speler fungeren.
De voorversterker / processor is óf een tweekanaals voorversterker of een meerkanaals processor.
U kunt in geval u met de meerkanaals versterker werkt, starten met twee luidsprekers en later uitbreiden met center en achterluidsprekers en subwoofer.Alle luidsprekers zullen zeer compacte actief versterkte luidsprekers zijn met digitale ingang.
De luidsprekers zullen een aluminium gegoten behuizing krijgen en een speciaal ontwikkelde vloerstandaard.
Dit alles met een verwachte vanafprijs van € 9000.-

Goldmund komt met een nieuwe / goedkopere productlijn genaamd "Metis".

Goldmund has shown in Las Vegas at the last CES prototypes of a new line of mini products called the Metis Line. These smaller components preamps, CD/DVD player, active speaker and Server were all displaying as a main feature their extreme technology and affordable price, below the SR line.
Usually cheaper components made by a High-end manufacturer are recognizable by their made-in-China cheap construction and poorer performance. Not here.
First the Metis components presented were all fully handcrafted in Switzerland by the same factory as the other Goldmund products, hand soldered, using the same sophisticated metal treatment process and extreme mechanical precision.
More, their technology was pushed to new limits, with 2 x Telos amplifier circuit in each speaker, more DSP power in the Metis 10, the 10-channel preamplifier of the line, than in a Mimesis 24 and a new level of miniaturization never achieved before.
And that's the secret. By the hyper-concentration of their technology, we were able to considerably reduce the cost without sacrifying any level of performance. Smaller size means also less metal and that's a huge cost reduction (see below).
These new components planned to arrive this summer will exclusively be sold in Goldmund Boutiques and not through the old distribution network. Do not expect to see them everywhere.
Very affordable, practical to use, extremely simple to install, they display the large advance Goldmund has now achieved in audio technology and will be our best technology window ever.

Goldmund is weer een super draaitafel aan het ontwerpen....

Our first image showing the new turntable with its electronic boxes. The 2 separate boxes are the System Power Supply and the Goldmund PH8 Phono stage on which a few details already been given on the Goldmund Blog but nothing been officially published so far, until the design is more advanced.
Only few details already known seem to be secure enough :
First the electronic boxes may be located in the system, far away from the turntable itself. The connection of cartridge signal being made in the digital domain, it may be extended without detrimental effects. On the contrary, if an analogue output is used from the PH8 Phono Preamp, it maybe important that this connexion is short and the Phono Preamp located close to the main preamplifier. This is why the Phono Preamp looks like a regular Goldmund unit, designed to be located in the system rack. Obviously from this drawing it uses a complete Mechanical Grouding design so it may be stacked with other Goldmund Ultimate line components.
On the contrary, the Power Supply unit groups all the devices that must be put away from critical signal units like the turntable itself but also the other electronic components. So be careful the image is giving you the wrong feeling. We also know that the connection will also be long enough to locate the Power Supply far away.

Goldmund brengt een "goedkope" versie van hun Telos model uit. Het wordt de Telos-200 en zal ook geschikt zijn om digitaal aan te gaan sturen. Prijs nog niet bekend maar heb ik opgevraagd

The new Telos 200 is born and starts delivering when you read this. A real Telos by its schematics, it is smaller than the Telos 400 has half the power limit and a price allowing it to replace the Mimesis 18.4 in the favours of audiophiles.
Its sonic quality is very Telos, with incredible speaker's control and uncanny dynamics and detail, very much like a Telos 400.
Knowing that the Mimesis 18.4 was our best seller amplifier ever, the Telos 200 is not a small event. It is the Telos technology down to the affordable range and a tremendous technological progress over any other amps in the same price league.
Compared with the Telos 400, the Telos 200 is slightly smaller but keeps the same shape, the only noticeable difference being its internal heatsink. Same inputs and outputs, same specs except maximum power. So you know it already.

Goldmund komt ook met een "betaalbare" (voor Goldmund begrippen dan  ) phono voorversterker voor de liefhebbers van platenspelers

The Mimesis PH7.3 the latest Goldmund Phono stage of the SR line is now in production. With its slightly simplified schematics, its internal-only adjustments (see the picture) but quite complete ones, the PH7.3 really looks like a Mimesis PH3 in miniature. Electronics being quite identical except for the Power supply, sound is also practically the same, fullfilling the aspirations of most analogue reasonable amateurs.
We should deliver the first units by the first days of December. Will this repeat the phenomenal success we had with the first PH7 in 1996 ? The history will tell. But we are already sold-out until February, so the start is good...

Do not expect an affordable price or a diminutive size either. But expect something as another Subscription-only Reference Extravaganza that the most wealthy audiophiles will probably fight to have as one of their most collectible items.

Specs:

power: 5000W @ 2 ohms 2500W @ 4 ohms 1250W @ 8 ohms

Distorsion independent from frequency (no distortion rise in high frequency) et independent from Output Power.

Capability to limit the Output Power depending on the connected Speaker with independantly adjustable limit for instantaneous and average without limiting the amplifier dynamic capability (this is why an amp with "too much power" is needed). The amp shuts off the output if the power is above, with a capability to measure the output current, output voltage and power (analogue calculator).

New Needed Technologies :

The Amp is made of 2 amps connected in symmetrical bridging (new Goldmund schematics) but with a common power supply to avoid dynamic losses. The bridge mode is needed to lower the power rail voltages to optimize performances of the output stages.

Goldmund Cascode Output stage. -> To lower non-linearities proportional to voltage applied on output transistors. Using HF Op-amps (GBW > 300MHz) to adjust Bias of the cascode stage with local feedback, in order to increase linearity of the output stage without increasing global Feedback.

Goldmund New Class A : The Output devices are never OFF but chnage from Followers to Current Sources -> Dramatic lowering of the output stage distortion depending on Power and Output Current. Cancellation of the Switchoff distortion and near cancellation of the crossover distortion. Adjustmant of bias and current in the "Current Source" mode independantly, allowing optimization of the output stage to literally remove intermodulation and harmonic distortion. Using ultra-stable voltage references with ultra-low noise as well as network of ultra-fast diodes associated with High Freaquency Op-amps to adjust the Bias.

Driver stage based on High-Frequency Operational amplifiers (GBW > 300MHz), allowing a complete isolation of the Output stage from the Gain stage. Increase of the global bandwidth and improvement of stability. Complete insensitivity of the Input stage from variation of Power, Local Feedback increasing linearity without using large global feedback.

Multiplication of output transistors (80 output devices per amplifier) to further minimize non-linearities in the Output stage. This is made possible thanks to the new driver stage. It was impossible before without taking out too much current on the input stage, producing a global degradation.

Floating Power Supply for the Driver stage and the cascode stage polarization, depending of output voltage -> Allows to use HF op-amps ultra-linear who cannot afford too high voltage power supply.
   
Optimization of input circuitry ausing stabilized current sources with ultra-low noise.
Power-suply shutdown protection circuit as in the Telos 600, ultra-fast, using NMOS transistors.
Main Power supply using 20 x 10'000uF 100V capacitors, made by Epcos in their new 106 Series with ultra-low serial impednace < 0.5 milli-ohm. Using also multiple capacitors very close from output devices and mixing Epcos 106 and Wima polypropylene MKP10 series. Main Transformer bloc with de 10 x transformer 500VA for the Main Voltage

High Voltage stabilized Power supply for the entry stage with double regulation and using ultra-low noise voltage references. Separate transformers.

Alize 6 with double dynamics new Goldmund D/A circuitry.

Dit geeft voor mij echt het gevoel dat Goldmund weet waar ze mee bezig zijn.

Niet nauwkeuriger, maar voor het doeleinde wel beter.
Met mijn eigen gehoor kan ik n.l. bepalen of ik iets goed vind klinken, en dat kan ik niet afleiden uit een stapel meetrapporten.

Een versterker bijvoorbeeld heeft slechts alleen de functie het binnenkomende signaal versterkend weer te geven zonder kleuringen en bijverschijnselen o.i.d.
Wellicht dat het hier van toepassing is

Afgelopen week de Mimisis 9 in combinatie met Tannoy Kingdom gehoord.
Die eindtrap leverde echt een subliem geluid 
Zag dat ie nu in de aanbieding is voor 3000 euro ??

Dat heb ik niet gezegd. Ik heb wel gezegd dat de stelling 'Everything is measurable' volslagen nonsens is. Naar mijn bescheiden mening bestaat de goede instelling bij AV-fabrikanten er dan ook uit om degelijke metingen te combineren met luisteren. Dit doet Goldmund trouwens zelf ook (staat te lezen in diezelfde tekst). Want als alles inderdaad meetbaar zou zijn, waarom zouden ze in hemelsnaam nog tijd spenderen aan luisteren? Heel wat dingen zijn inderdaad meetbaar, maar lang niet alles. En de dingen die niet meetbaar zijn, moeten de fabrikanten dan maar 'op het gehoor' uitvogelen.

Een voorbeeldje uit een andere sector om in dat verband eens aan te denken: Voor de ontwikkeling van de geigerteller was radioactviteit niet meetbaar. Betekent dat dan dat radioactiviteit niet bestond vooraleer de passende meetapparatuur was uitgevonden? I'm afraid not.

En nu we toch bezig zijn, de uitspraak 'Send them back to school' vind ik behoorlijk misplaatst. Waarschijnlijk doelen ze daarmee op fabrikanten die alles op het gehoor doen en geen meetapparatuur gebruiken. Maar dan nog is dat soort op de borst klopperij ongepast en al helemaal als ze zelf beweren in diezelfde tekst dat ze bescheiden zijn. Bescheiden? Mijn g.t!

Ik laat de uitspraak of Goldmund al dan niet een echt topmerk is graag in het midden. Qua prijsstelling zijn ze in ieder geval wel absolute top. Maar of ze dat ook kunnen waarmaken?

Een heleboel zaken zijn dus (nog) niet meetbaar, een uitspraak die van toepassing is voor een heleboel sectoren, niet alleen AV. Iemand die het tegendeel beweert en dit ook kan waarmaken, staat op het punt om een zeer rijk man te worden, want de fabrikanten zullen in bosjes komen smeken om die ongelofelijke know-how te kopen!

Goldmund's $300k Turntable

I couldn't resist posting this photo, not of a product, but of photos of a product, just to get Mikey Fremer all riled up about the fact that the Continuum Caliburn turntable, for which he forked out mucho dinero, is no longer the Big Dog of LP playback.
The Goldmund Reference II celebrates 25 years since the introduction of the original Reference. Just five will be made each year, according to Goldmund's Michel Reverchon when I spoke with him at the company's Bellagio suite, and 2007's production has already been spoken for. And yes, it will cost $300,000.

The Reference II, which, like its illustrious ancestor, includes a high-mass plinth, will accommodate three conventional tonearms. However, Goldmund is working on an optical pickup/arm, which will incorporate a high-performance A/D converter at the headshell. This will not be available for some time, probably not until 2008.
