"Onkyo is proud to introduce the THX Ultra-certified DV-SP1000E, a reference grade universal player that features state of the art technology and connectivity options to extract the ultimate audio/video performance... from virtually any disc format.

The £2799.95 player (available in black or silver) features digital multi-channel audio output via iLink (IEEE 1394) and via DVI-compatible HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface), as well as including a sophisticated internal video scaler.

For the ultimate in video reproduction, the DV-SP1000E includes a rear-panel HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) connection designed to deliver digital video information to modern HD display devices without the degradation caused by additional circuitry.

The unit features a high quality Oplus FlexScale video scaler that's capable of outputting video signals in a variety of customizable HD formats, including 720p or 1080i.

For fans of SACD and DVD-Audio, the DV-SP1000E includes two iLink (IEEE 1394) connections for digital output of high resolution 5.1-channel audio signals. When combined with a compatible receiver this delivers the ultimate in sound reproduction and simplifies bass management duties, all via a single cable.

Additionally, there are 7.1-channel analogue outputs for consumers wishing to take advantage of the player's high-quality internal decoding circuitry. The player's video circuitry also employs a new Analog Devices 216 MHz/14-bit video D/A converter, coupled with high quality de-interlacing circuitry (with 3:2 pulldown conversion) from Silicon Image.

Those who want to use analogue component video, meanwhile, will find dedicated connections that allow interlaced and progressive scan output. There are also two S-Video and two composite video jacks and it's worth noting that all video outputs remain active during DVD playback.

Naturally, the DV-SP1000E also includes standard coaxial and optical digital outputs, as well as a bi-directional RS-232 port and IR in/out jacks for compatibility with today's home automation/control systems.

Built into the player you'll find Dolby Digital/DTS decoding plus sophisticated 192 kHz/24-bit Wolfson VQA DACs, combined with Onkyo's exclusive VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry). The upshot? Utterly pristine sounding analogue audio...

Construction standards comprise a rigid aluminum chassis, integrated stabilizer network and feet to reduce vibration help deliver a sonically superior playback. Elsewhere the attractive front panel LED display and button illumination can be dimmed via a four-way dimmer circuit, and a full-function backlit aluminum

pre-programmed/learning remote control comes included as standard.

* PAL/NTSC progressive scan output using Silicon Image chipset
* Oplus FlexScale video scaling - Standard progressive scan DVD players can at best, output an NTSC 480p signal or PAL 576p signal to compatible TVs or projectors. The DV-SP1000E will upscale conventional DVD (NTSC 480i or PAL 576i) to 480p/576p/720p or 1080i via the built-in O-Plus FlexScale video scaler.

Processing Features
* Exclusive Dual Direct Digital Path - Unlike other DVD players that use inexpensive PC-board copper traces to transfer the digital audio signal, the DV-SP1000E employs dual high-purity, heavy-gauge, shielded cables to directly output digital or PCM bitstreams straight from the disc to the back panel. This protects the audio signal against potential noise from nearby microprocessors and power supplies. So if you use the optical or coaxial digital output to send multi-channel Dolby Digital, DTS and more to your compatible receiver, you're starting off with the cleanest possible signal.
* VLSC- Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry - Conventional D/A conversion methods reduce digital pulse noise at the conversion stage but can't remove it completely. VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) employs a unique D/A conversion circuit to overcome this problem. Data is converted between sampling points and these discrete points are joined with analogue vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result - a virtually noiseless, smooth analogue signal based on the digital source.
* Wolfson VQA 192 kHz/24-bit audio DACs - Performing at full 192 kHz/24-bit level resolution, these DACs, sourced from premium chip maker Wolfson, deliver industry-standard setting audio performance that is second to none. The advantages of the Wolfson chip architecture include ideal differential linearity, no distortion mechanisms due to resistor matching errors, no linearity drift over time and temperature, and a high tolerance to clock jitter for the best performance possible from DVD-Audio, Super Audio CD and whatever other high resolution formats the future has in store.
* Analog Devices 216MHz/14-bit video DAC - A crucial factor in achieving clear, pristine digital video playback is the video D/A converter in your DVD player. The state-of-the-art 216 MHz/ 14-bit video DAC from Analog Devices featured in the DV-SP1000E gives you the finest artefact-free picture available.
