QuoteDanish digital audio specialist  Lyngdorf Audio has launched what it believes is the best performing A/D converter on the market -- The Millennium ADC. It can be employed as a standalone product wherever a state-of-the-art A/D converter is needed, however, when used with a Lyngdorf Millennium Mk III / IV amplifier and connected via the Millennium Link control system, the two will work as if they were one product. The Millennium ADC is engineered as a pure dual-mono design with two balanced 24-bit converters per channel and local regulated power supplies provided for each circuit. A special harmonic balancing compensation (where one of the channels is inverted within the DSP to balance out 'broadband' noise) ensures that the specifications are of true high-end performance. Via the menu system, it is possible to precisely configure the phonostage to match a huge variety of MM and MC cartridges. What's more, in addition to the standard RIAA de-emphasis curve, users can also select from eight different de-emphasis compensation curves in order to achieve completely accurate and frequency-correct playback of older recordings. Overall frequency response is from 10Hz to 45kHz (-3dB) with a THD+N ratio of an extremely low 0.0002% @ 114dB.

CES, Las Vegas, Jan 4 2007
Press release
Lyngdorf Audio makes RoomPerfect™ available to all
Danish digital audio specialist Lyngdorf Audio is proud to unveil two new products incorporating the company's innovative and highly acclaimed RoomPerfect™ room correction technology.
As of March RoomPerfect™ will be available in
a) the DPA-1, a digital pre-amplifier that will control and drive any power amplifier.
b) the RP-1 'Black Box', a standalone room processor that can be inserted in any conventional pre-/power amplifier set up, or via a tape loop on an integrated amplifier.
In 2006 Lyngdorf Audio launched its revolutionary RoomPerfect™ technology as a fully-integrated option within the TDA 2200 integrated amplifier.
RoomPerfect™ is a room audio correction system that effectively removes the room from the 'good sound' equation and thus allows the listener access to the real sound of his audio system. We firmly believe it represents the current state-of-the-art.
"What has really amazed users is that a system this sophisticated is so dazzlingly simple to use. You don't need to know anything about acoustics or computers to get full benefit from RoomPerfect™", says CMO Michael Nielsen, "And until now the opportunity for 'removing the room' was reserved for customers willing to exchange their current amplification with a Lyngdorf Audio amplifier."
Well, not anymore!
DPA-1 Digital Pre-Amplifier:
The DPA-1 is a true digital pre-amplifier with full RoomPerfect™ functionality incorporated. That means that, in addition to global correction which improves the sound in the entire room, users can also pick from up to 8 presets that optimize the sound at 8 different preferred listening positions in the room.
In the digital domain the company has added sophisticated filtering and ensured true galvanic separation of each single input. In that way the ground planes for the digital and analog domains are completely separated and sound-deteriorating ground loops are eliminated.
Though it is a true digital product users can still connect analog sources as the DPA-1 comes, as standard, with a state-of-the-art built-in A/D converter.
DPA-1 and RP-1 CES 2007.doc 1
Whether you use the single-ended or balanced inputs provided, the signal is immediately converted to a balanced signal. Input selection, meanwhile, is carried out via high-end, double gold-plated relays, normally only encountered in expensive high-precision measuring equipment.
All the signal paths of the DPA-1 are individually impedance-compensated (using transmission-line principles) ensuring better noise immunity, while optimum impedance matching is maintained in order to preserve the original signal shape.
In truth, the DPA-1 is much more than just a pre-amplifier – it is a complete digital signal processing control center that allows users to configure it as an active crossover for 2.0, 2.1 and 2+2 loudspeaker solutions.
Remarkably, the menus necessary to do this are all directly accessible on the product itself – settings for level, delay, routing, crossover topology, slope and frequency are all easily user-adjustable without the aid of a PC.
The outputs in the analog domain are single-ended and fully balanced while signals in the digital domain are available via S/PDIF outputs.
The DPA-1 will be available in silver and black.

RP-1 Room Processor
We call it our little 'Black Box' but there's nothing mysterious about what the RP-1 does. This is the simplest way of removing room-generated anomalies and the fastest way to improve the sonic performance of your existing audio system.
You connect it between your pre- and power amplifier, set the input sensitivity and make the RoomPerfect™ calibration... easily done in less than ½ hour! That's it!
And bear in mind that we are not just talking 'tweaking' here. This device removes the single, most influential potential obstacle in the quest to achieve the best possible sound... the room itself.
In essence, the 'Black Box' will improve sound reproduction in any audio system, from basic to very high-end set-ups.
DPA-1 and RP-1 CES 2007.doc 2
Since RP-1 features analog interfaces and RoomPerfect™ works entirely in the digital domain we have taken some quite dramatic steps in order to maintain signal quality at an extremely high level.
All analog-to-digital signal conversion is handled via the same converter that we employ in the flagship Millennium ADC. When it comes to D/A conversion, at the output stage we have used the converter from top of the range Millennium Mk IV amplifier. Truly high-end thinking!
As with the DPA-1 we decided that the advanced user should still have the option of creating 2.0, 2.1 and 2+2 loudspeaker solutions. So the RP-1 is much more than a room processor – it is a complete digital signal processing control center that allows you to create speaker configurations ranging from simple bi-amped arrangements to advanced active speaker systems and/or 2+2 systems i.e. incorporating Lyngdorf Audio boundary woofers.
However, we have kept operation simple by making all the menus necessary for configuring these advanced set-ups directly accessible on the product. So, once again, there's no need for a PC in order to adjust level, delay, routing, crossover topology, slope and frequency.
And, to ensure maximum compatibility, the inputs/outputs can be switched between single ended or balanced.
The RP-1 'Black Box' will be available in... black.

CES, Las Vegas, Jan 6 2007
Press release
Dipole speakers join forces with Boundary Woofers, Courtesy of Lyngdorf Audio!
Catch an advance preview/demonstration of a truly revolutionary speaker system...
Commonly accepted acoustic principles have always been challenged by Peter Lyngdorf, the outspoken founder of Lyngdorf Audio. Known for launching the world's first fully digital amplifier, his pioneering research into room audio correction systems, and pursuing an innovative approach to speaker systems, Lyngdorf has positioned the company bearing his name at the very forefront of audio technology.
At CES 2007 Lyngdorf Audio will preview a radical new direction in with the unveiling of the DP-1 dipole loudspeaker and BW-1 Boundary woofer. Used together these two form what the company has dubbed a 2+2 speaker setup. Compared to a set of traditional speakers the main advantages of a 2+2 setup are optimum impulse response at lower frequencies and dramatically reduced levels of distortion.
DP-1 Dipole Loudspeaker
The DP-1 is the first dipole speaker to emerge from Lyngdorf Audio. This product features a compact front baffle in a stunning piano-lacquered finish... but posesses no cabinet! The slightly curved baffle is securely mounted in a cast-iron base, making the entire design appear very minimalist, not obstructing interior decoration.
Not having a cabinet means that the DP-1 is free from the usual array of cabinet colorations which – no matter what size of cabinet is used – any normal speaker will forever be battling. Furthermore this open construction eliminates any trace of the mechanical distortion that's found in traditional speakers. There is absolutely no air compression affecting the movement of the cone. The result is a very transparent, unsurprisingly unboxy sound quality which adds nothing in the way of distortion to your recordings.
That's because the very nature of a dipole speaker means that it plays in concert with a room, not against it.
Equipped with the highly acclaimed 'Revelator' dome tweeter from Scan-Speak this speaker ensures the highest degree of precision in the high frequency range. Air-cooling instead of conventional ferrofluid eliminates any mechanical distortion from the tweeter.
The 6½" woofer features an extremely stiff magnesium cone that has no break up in the frequency range where it is used. This absence of stored energy means that it has an unsurpassed transient response. The metal center plug ensures better heat dissipation when the party gets going.
DP-1 and BW-1 CES 2007.doc 1
Lyngdorf Audio believes that the DP-1 will become synonymous with speed, precision, and attack. Expect your soundstage to open up as never before...
BW-1 Boundary Woofer
Tailored to match the DP-1, the BW-1 handles low frequencies in this system.
So it's a subwoofer then? No, not at all!
An explanation is in order. This 'Boundary Woofer' puts the floor and wall to use, generating unsurpassed impulse response all the way up to 500 Hz. The compact design featuring a massive, frontfiring 10" woofer has a sensitivity of 92 dB. The extremely large magnet also ensures a low q factor even in the very compact cabinet of 12 liters. This, together with the placement – low and against the wall - ensures 100% coherence between direct sound from the BW-1 and reflections from the floor and wall.
Derived from the highly acclaimed Lyngdorf Audio W210 corner woofer the BW-1 allows for a more flexible solution as it does not have to be placed in a corner. This is particularly useful for applications in an L-shaped room or where furniture and doors make corner placement impossible.
The BW-1 still relies on the same principle of operation, however. But placing it so that two of the three boundaries – dimensions if you will – are brought into play will ensure a standard of bass reproduction which cannot be obtained by a normal two-channel speaker system.
Background Information – Lyngdorf Audio 2+2 speaker setup
Placing speakers in a room has always created problems as the listener not only hears the direct sound from the speakers, but also reflections from boundaries such as walls, ceiling, and floor. Because the wavelength of the direct sound invariably differs from the wavelengths of the various reflections the result is a 'smeared' impulse response.
The '2+2 speaker concept' developed by Peter Lyngdorf back in 2000 provides a unique solution to this problem.
A 'corner woofer' was developed for placing behind the front speakers, at the very corners of a room. These would then handle the bass while the front speakers would only deal with frequencies from approximately 400Hz upwards. This system ensured coherence of the direct and the reflected sounds in the lower frequency wavelengths.
The three immediate advantages are:
1. The problem of varying sound pressure areas in the listening room is seriously reduced.
2. Impulse response at low frequencies is dramatically improved as the direct signal and reflections reach the listener at the same time.
3. Less energy is required for bass reproduction as the walls and the floor guide the moving air in the same direction.
However, used in a conventional system corner-placed woofers would generate a tremendous overshoot in bass reproduction due to loading of the walls and floor. Also, DP-1 and BW-1 CES 2007.doc 2
there would be a delay in sound generated by the corner woofer compared to sound from the speaker.
This frequency and delay correction is taken care of by the preset section in the Lyngdorf amplifiers. On top of that, the patented RoomPerfect™ room correction technology available in Lyngdorf Audio integrated and pre-amplifiers greatly reduces the room influence on the frequency response.
The combined, overall effect of a 2+2 system driven in concert with RoomPerfect™ technology is a dramatic improvement in both frequency and impulse response in real-world rooms.
The DP-1 and BW-1 will be available in black piano finish.
Availability: May 2007.

CES, Las Vegas, Jan 8 2007
Press release
An Analog-To-Digital Converter in a Class of Its Own
Danish digital audio specialist Lyngdorf Audio has launched what it believes is the best performing A/D converter on the market – The Millennium ADC.
Ever since the world's first true digital amplifier, the Millennium, was launched back in 1998, customers have been waiting for the matching A/D converter.
Finally, at last year's CES, Lyngdorf Audio was able to display a prototype of an A/D converter that it considered worthy of being a partner for the highly acclaimed Millennium amplifier. The reactions were so overwhelmingly positive that it was decided to go ahead and put it into production.
During 2006 the Millennium amplifier was redesigned and is now in its Mk IV incarnation. A new power supply and output stage increased the maximum output current by no less than 50% to a staggering +/-60A. At the same time the mechanical design was subtly refined and so, of course, the new Millennium ADC follows those revised design cues.
The Millennium ADC can be used as a 'standalone' product wherever a state-of-the-art A/D converter is needed – in consumer electronics as well as in pro audio.
However, when used with a Millennium Mk III / IV and connected via the Millennium Link control system the two will work as if they were one product. When you e.g. switch on/off on the remote they both react and, when you select an analog input, the amplifier automatically calls this input from the Millennium ADC.
"The Millennium ADC is engineered as a pure dual-mono design with two balanced 24-bit converters per channel and local regulated power supplies provided for each circuit.
Furthermore, a special harmonic balancing compensation (where one of the channels is inverted - in the DSP - to balance out 'broadband' noise) ensures that the specifications actually surpass what's theoretically possible to achieve. The S/N ratio is measured at 124dB and the THD as low as 0.0002%", explains CMO Michael Nielsen, "That is why we feel confident in our claim that the Millennium ADC is the best performing A/D converter on the market."
For vinyl fans the Millennium ADC also offers an optional and utterly unique phono stage, also designed in a pure dual-mono arrangement. Via the menu system, it's possible to precisely configure the phono stage to match a huge variety of MM and MC cartridges.
What's more, in addition to the standard RIAA de-emphasis curve, users can also select from eight different de-emphasis compensation curves in order to achieve completely accurate and frequency-correct playback of older recordings. Millennium ADC CES 2007.doc 1
And if you happen to use one of the pre-loaded compensation curves for Ortofon cartridges provided you can even select a individually-tailored DSP frequency compensation for that specific cartridge, resulting in a virtually perfect frequency response.
As one of the development engineers wryly observed: "Isn't it ironic that you can now find the best performing phono stage ever built... in a digital product?"
The Millennium ADC is available in silver finish.
Availability: Now.

VrGr,

A/D of D/A converter.
