Columbia Regio 1 releases en Superbit.
« on: April 28, 2002, 04:47:56 »
Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment has issued a press release stating that they are working on a Special Edition DVD of Ridley Scott's "Black Hawk Down." The release date has not been determined. The "regular" DVD edition is scheduled for release on June 11, and will include the film, of course, as well as a documentary. For those of you interested in supplemental content but who prefer not to buy movies again and again and again, perhaps you will want to wait for the Special Edition as it will contain additional bonus material including a Ridley Scott audio commentary. Some of you will certainly grumble over this announcement of a second version, but at least be thankful the studio is informing you ahead of time that there will be two versions. They could have waited to announce the Special Edition until AFTER the June 11 version hits stores, as has been the case in the past with many multiple version releases.

Timed to the current interest in comic book-themed movies like the new "Spider-Man" movie (opening in theatres May 3), and the in-production "X-Men 2," and "The Incredible Hulk," Columbia TriStar has announced "Stan Lee's Mutants, Monsters & Marvels," a look at the career of comic book legend Stan Lee. The DVD streets May 14.

In more Columbia TriStar news, the company has revealed they plan to release Superbit editions of "Hollow Man" and "The Patriot" on May 28, only this time they will be Superbit Deluxe editions. That is, they will include a second disc containing supplemental material. Hmmm. Many of you are no doubt wondering why they didn't offer this approach from the get-go. In addition, the company has announced non-Superbit Special Editions of "Memento" (May 21), "Men In Black" (May 21), "Stuart Little" (May 21), and "Starship Troopers" (May 28), "Memento," like the April 23 release of "Metropolis," will be a rare example of a non-Superbit title including a DTS audio track option. The "Men In Black" and "Stuart Little" DVDs are obviously intended to capitalize on the forthcoming sequels of each due in theatres this summer as much of the supplemental content is being carried over from the previous DVDs, with the addition of promotional material for the sequels. The new "Stuart Little" DVD, unlike the other titles mentioned, will be released in 1.33:1 full-screen format only. And for more bad news for widescreen fans…

Hoi,
