There are so many online/offline DVD stores around that it is hard to know which one(s) is/are the best to use.

Can I have some of your opinions?

Following criteria are important to me:
1. Price (of course)
2. Shipping Costs
3. Shipping Duration
4. Region 1's and/or Region2's?
5. You experience. e.g. time you have to wait before DVD arrives etc (assuming an online order)

I hope this is something I can ask FrankD/Garmt.

My personal experinece has been with the following:

Have used www.play.com and video-now.com. Play.com based in Jersey Channel Islands, have good prices on Region 2 DVD's (approx. < 10 GBP) whereas Region 1's are usually 15.99, 16.99 or 17.99 (all GBP's). Both are free shipping.
I usually have the DVD 7-10 days after ordering. (why it take's so long I dont know, as they ship almost immed.)

Video-now (cant seem to find them anymore) were based in Canada. Prices were 'slightly' cheaper than Play (for Region 1's of course) but delivery time was very eratic. Sometimes up to 3 weeks! so I quit using them. They also had free shipping.

I tend to buy DVD's from 5-10 at a time, although every now and then I buy then singularly. This would be an important factor if shipping costs are necessary and are based upon weight.

Would love to hear what you and use and your opinions.
Thanks.
Collin

Hi Collin!

First of all I use www.dvdpricesearch.com to locate the best price I can get for a particular title (add shipping-destination in preferences).
Approximately 8 out of 10 times the best price is to be found at www.dvdboxoffice.com (Canada). What I like about them is that they never put the actual price on the invoice. They also write "used CD" on the bogus invoice. 8)
This is very helpfull to escape any custom/taxes, which is offcourse very  8) 8) 8) . Another thing is that box-sets always come through. The same "invoice-technique" is used.

Expect a deliverytime of a about 2 - 2,5 weeks (I live in Am$terdam).

Worldwide shippingcharge is included in the price.

With friendly regards, Chendy.

Hi Collin,

Like Chendy, I also order my DVD's at DVDBoxoffice.com
The price listed on the site is exactly what you pay: no international shipping costs or quotom charges.

No fiddling with customs, unmarked packages. Simple.
Although I'm not sure if they also sell Region 2 discs (i never looked for it).

cheers,
Paul

I also buy at DVDBoxoffice.com. They don't sell Region 2 discs. I buy R2 mostly at play.com and at the "Mediamarkt".  To avoid ALL custom costs, place only one DVDs in each order. Because neither dvdboxoffice.com or play.com charge any shipping costs, shipping one disc at a time is not an issue at all. Ordering one DVD at a time also prevents regular visits at the post office, which I think is a big plus.

I also use DVDBOXOFFICE.

I have ordered there for over a year, and when I lost some packages they replaced them without problems.

Before that I always ordered from DVDexpress, but they are expensive, and have high shipping costs.

Hello,

I also used dvdboxoffice however the delivery time is a little bit to long. ;)

Video Now is out of the question they charged your credit card first en they will not deliver your dvd's at all.
I'm not sure but the webmaster of dvd price search.net has removed them from the data base because a lot of customers have troubles with this store.

Another store with quick delivery times www.absound.ca and also the austria store www.ezydvd.com.au are very nice stores to order.
Forgive my english writing ;).

Hi Collin,
Well, story getting kinda boring probably, but I also use mostly dvdboxoffice. But if u (or your GF :D) need r2 disks to get online. http://www.dvdstreet.infront.co.uk/ is a good option. It's a store located in the UK so r2 but not always dutch subs, so check b4 you buy.

Actually guys my wife is Danish, not Dutch - so you were both correct Dutch subtitles do not interest us in the slightest... I always put English subtitling on for my wife anyway. (especially if it is a movie with broad English accents - e.g. Billy Elliot)

Seems that dvdboxoffice wins hands down then huh?

(Thanks a lot for all the replies. I'm gonna try 'em and see wot appens.....

Cheers,
Collin

P.S. Come to think of it I am sure I sent an order to Video Now for a DVD some time ago, never got the DVD - ummm.. never checked to see if I was charged either for that matter.. off to check bank statements..)

I also order most of my DVD at dvdboxoffice.  Prices are excellent, however shipping isn't that fast (approx. 2-3 weeks) only 1 out of 30 shipping were lost.  After several emails they are resending it now (Moulin Rouge; ordered early nov.; shipped dec 6th; received empty envelope dec30th)

For R2 I usually shop at Play247 for the bargains. And also Makro, FRS (to get rid of my freebees) and Mediamarkt (when I'm in the neighbourhood)

Cheers,
Rob

JG,
