QuoteI captured the "It's All Here" 1 minute commercial in 1080i and then deinterlaced it and processed it down to 720p at only 24 fps. I then used the open source XviD MPEG4 encoder to make a short file at only about 4.5 mbps, way less than what they are claiming the new HDVD might need.

I've placed this avi file in a zip file on my web page, called Its_All_Here.zip so folks can compare for themselves. I personally think it is as clear as many film based HDTV movies I've watched. I could have used a few more bits but I have limited web space and somewhat above 4.5 mbps some computers may have trouble playing it, at least without hardware acceleration (not available for mpeg4 yet).

Since it is only a 15 second segment (about 10.6 MB) of an advertisement I probably won't get any calls from lawyers, but in deference to AVS Forum policy I won't post a direct link here.

There are no direct links to it at all so in order to get the file you will have to type in the url / filename and then choose "save as".

Un-zip the downloaded file and play it with Zoom Player or most DVD players. You will need DivX4 installed for the codec and some way of playing AC3 sound if you want to hear it.

Anyway, I think that this bit rate, or something slightly more, could do a decent HD-DVD. And it looks like it might take about twice that or a bit more if you wanted 1080p.

Have fun,
