Sunfire Announces Theater Grand Processor III  

This cutting-edge preamp processor has a new all-digital implementation of Bob Carver,s legendary Holographic Imaging, as well as a multi-source second zone, full 7.1 Dolby Digital Surround EX, Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS-ES and DTS Neo:6 decoding.

Garmt, komt dit ook maar enigzins in de buurt van Logic7?

Nee,

DTS:neo lijkt er nog het meest op samen met DPL-II, maar een echte logic 7 is beter.

Sorry, maar wat bedoelen ze dan met:
Full 7.1 Dolby Digital Surround EX. Komt dit wel in de buurt van Logic7?

Logic 7 etc. zijn systemen die van een 2 kanaals bron geluid meerkanaals maken.

Dolby Digital en DTS ES/EX zijn systemen die van een 5.1 systeem 7.1 maken, en is dus niet vergelijkbaar.

Logic7 maakt toch ook van een 5.1 of 6.1 soundtrack 7.1? Of heb ik het nu mis?

Ligt aan de processor.
Volgens mij zijn het met huidige alleen mogelijk met de 2 kanaals versie, daar ligt juist de kracht voor die logic steering, ander heb je genoeg aan DTS ES of DD EX.

Maar Garmt weet dit vast beter.

Ja, en nu komt kenwood ook met een 7.1 machine. We gaan weer een stapje verder hoor.

The Kenwood VR-5900 Audio/Video surround receiver resides at the top of the Kenwood line. The retail price of the Kenwood VR-5900 is $3,000.

The VR-5900 is no exception. It comes with 24-bit 96 kHz D/A converters and today's best DSP modes to include Dolby Digital, the new Dolby Digital Prologic II, DTS ES Surround and more. It also provides THX correction modes and wears the THX Ultra certification.

The Kenwood VR-5900 is 7.1 ready, allowing you to connect 7 speakers, two more than a standard 5.1 setup. The extra channels in the VR-5900 reproduce Surround Back Channel information when it is present in THX Surround EX- encoded DVDs or when it is synthesized by the DTS Neo: 6 mode. These two extra speakers are designed to be placed behind the listener. The only downfall to feature is the current lack of software that will support this added capability. There are just a small handful of audio and video releases that provide 7.1 information. For a touch of tomorrow's technology, the VR-5900 provides analog audio inputs for DVD-Audio sources.

ALLE nieuwe pre-amps zullen met 7.1 komen, dat is ondertussen inderdaad DE standaard. Ik kan me ook niet indenken dat er nog merken zullen komen (in het hogere segment) die met 5.1 aan komen.

7.1 kanaals versterkers zijn inderdaad compleet standaard tegenwoordig. Echter, ik word persoonlijk niet wild van DTS Neo:6 en DPLII. Ik ben namelijk verwend met Logic-7, wat overigens werkt op 2, 3, 4, 5 en (met de MC-12) ook 6-kanaals (DTS ES discrete) bronnen en alle mogelijke geluidsformaten (dus PCM, DD, DTS).

Dus naar mijn mening komt er geen enkele versterker met standaard "7.1" (eigenlijk 5.1 gematrixt of 6.1) in de buurt van de "echte" 7-kanaals implementaties van Meridian of Lexicon.

Wat een beetje interessant wordt is THX Ultra 2. Bij versterkers met deze uitbreiding wordt er optimaal gebruik gemaakt van een 7-kanaals setup door actieve sturing van alle 4 surround kanalen, onafhankelijk van "normaal" DD/DTS, EX/ES of ES discrete. Maar ik vrees dat dat nog steeds niet tipt aan L7.

Maar begrijp ik het goed dat de MC1 een discreet 6.1 signaal niet aankan en de MC 12 wel?

Klopt. De DC-1/DC-2/MC-1 kunnen geen DTS ES 6.1 discrete decoderen. Alleen de gematrixte variant. Verschil tussen deze twee lijkt mij overigens erg klein.

In de bioscoop is er overigens geen discrete versie van DTS. Je luisterd met discreet dus naar iets wat er voor de DVD voor in elkaar geflanst is. Heeft minder te maken met de bioscoop mix. Maar ze zullen wel gewoon een matrix over de achterkanalen heenleggen, en de 'center' in de achter speakers stoppen. En wat uit die matrix overblijft voor links en rechts inderdaad op links en rechts zijkant zetten.

Je begrijpt het al, ik geef erop af want ik heb zelf geen discrete ES.. ;D Niet eens officieel matrixed ES. Maar wel een 7.1 implementatie van DTS die misschien wel beter klinkt.
