ITASCA, IL, January 9, 2003—Expanding the company's position as a full-line supplier of high-performance audio/video components, Marantz today announced the introduction of its MV8300 D-VHS/S-VHS D-Theater VCR. The multi-format deck offers home theater enthusiasts the ability to record and play back true high-definition HDTV images in full digital video quality, along with unsurpassed conventional VHS, Super VHS and Super VHS ET playback. It's the ideal finishing touch to a high-definition home theater system.

The Ultimate in High-Definition VCR Recording and Playback
The Marantz MV8300 is designed for ultimate-quality recording performance and convenience. The D-VHS system records and plays back HD and SD digital broadcasts (all 18 ATSC formats) onto D-VHS cassettes in full digital quality, capturing the signals from a digital set top box via its IEEE-1394 connection and playing back digital program material with no image loss, exactly as is was originally broadcast. The MV8300 also provides top-quality Super VHS, Super VHS ET and standard VHS recording and playback, with 420 lines resolution in Super VHS and Super VHS ET modes.

In addition to bit-for-bit-accurate HDTV recording, the MV8300 also provides a selection of compressed-recording modes, for extended HDTV playback time from a single D-VHS cassette. The deck includes advanced video processing circuitry to assure superior quality from all analog and digital formats, such as a Frame Synchronizer function that yields the best possible picture quality when dubbing analog video sources onto D-VHS cassettes.

The Marantz MV8300 includes a full complement of digital and analog inputs and outputs, to facilitate connection to any home entertainment system. Along with its IEEE-1394 set-top connection, the deck provides two IEEE-1394 DV inputs for use with a digital camcorder, two sets of A/V inputs with S-Video connections, plus component video, A/V and an optical digital audio output with 5.1 Dolby Digital audio and 2-channel PCM digital audio capability.

Along with total recording versatility, the MV8300 offers a wealth of advanced performance and convenience features. The deck's Plug and Play feature automatically sets up its tuner and clock simply by plugging it in after making the video and audio connections. It includes a useful video navigation features that encodes tapes by category, recording date and an ID number, which makes locating and organizing favorite tapes easy. The deck also offers VCR Plus+ programming capability, front panel A/V inputs including IEEE-1394 and S-Video, a one-year/24 event programmable timer, a versatile remote with jog/shuttle capability and much more.

The Marantz MV8300 D-VHS/S-VHS D-Theater VCR carries a suggested retail price of $1,599 and will begin shipping in the first quarter of 2003.

Misschien ten overvloede, dit apparaat wordt alleen in de USA geintroduceerd. Het belangrijkste nieuws is echter dat het D-Theater formaat nu door meer dan 1 merk (JVC) ondersteund wordt. D-VHS/D-Theater neemt steeds meer de positie in die vroeger door LD werd ingenomen. Het enige produkt in een niche markt.

Opmerking uit eigen ervaring:
Hoewel HDTV een resolutie van 1920 * 1080 heeft, is ook op displays met een lagere resulutie, zeg 720p, het verschil met DVD direct zichtbaar. De toegenomen scherpte, minder ruis en enorme diepte die in het beeld zit. Bijv op een 42" Pioneer plasma (1024 * 768, 16*9 scherm) was het verschil met DVD werkelijk enorm.

BLijkbaar is Marantz amerika niet MArantz Europe...
