The BBC has now confirmed that it will begin high definition transmissions later this year. It will start a 6-12 month trial in June. The programming will be transmitted on free-to-air and will run on Sky's HD sercive, cable and terrestiral  digital.

The trial is set to be closed to only a thousand people in the London area. There will be a test service on Sky and Telewest so people can see just how good the quality is. There will be a varity of programs inlcuding a number of drama's and sport including Bleak House, Rome and the fantastic Planet Earth. There is also some rumours that the BBC will show some of the World Cup. "We very much hope we can deliver our half of the World Cup," says the BBC's Andy Quested in T3's sister magazine What Video and Widescreen TV.  The BBC shares rights to the World Cup with ITV.
