LUMAGEN ANNOUNCES RadianceXDTM POWERED BY HQV™


Beaverton, OR—(Sept 6, 2005)— Lumagen Inc. announced today that it is developing the RadianceXD, incorporating the advanced Realta HQV™ video processing engine.  The Lumagen RadianceXD is slated for release in the second quarter of 2006. It will be the perfect companion for any commercial or home theater application wanting to use the award-winning HQV powered by Teranex processing. Lumagen's own processing and calibration technology is combined with the Realta HQV to provide the ultimate home theatre experience.

The RadianceXD will sport 10 video inputs, and two independent HDMI outputs. The video input complement includes six HDMI, two SD/ED/HD analog and two SD/ED analog inputs. Composite and SVideo sources are processed with a 3D comb-filter for the best possible image from off-air and analog-cable channels. In addition there are 6 SPDIF, 2 TOS-Link and 4 stereo analog audio inputs with two independent SPDIF outputs. Audio is also supported on all HDMI inputs and outputs. Together these features allow the RadianceXD to act as a 10 by 2 audio/video crossbar switch, making it ideal for even the most sophisticated home and commercial applications. The first output is from the Realta HQV processor. The second output can be independently selected from any of the ten video inputs or a copy of the first output.

The RadianceXD provides extremely fast switching by using an independent input decoder for each of its ten inputs. Unlike other video processors that can take up to several seconds to sync when a new digital input is selected, the RadianceXD actively samples all inputs, including HDCP encryption, so it can switch inputs immediately.

The RadianceXD incorporates a true 10-bit video processing pipeline with the Realta HQV at its core. The Realta HQV provides full four-field motion adaptive video deinterlacing for both standard definition and high definition signals, temporal-recursive noise reduction, automatic multi-cadence detection, and pixel-based detail enhancement. Lumagen's own calibration, and video processing algorithms are used to complement and enhance the already stellar Realta HQV processing. The RadianceXD provides the most extensive set of video calibration features available, allowing the image to meet the critical color accuracy requirements of even the most demanding theater application.

Is Lumagen eigenlijk wel in Nederland verkrijgbaar?

We zijn nu bijna twee jaar verder ... ik zie heel wat DVD spelers met deze chip, zijn er externe scaler boxen die dit ook implementeren ?

Het coole aan deze scaler is dat het overweg kan met alle cadences en zelfs scenes met meerdere cadences door mekaar uit mekaar kan houden :

Kwa features lijken gennum en realta aan mekaar gewaagd. Maar Realta HQV claimed niet aan pattern matching te doen voor z'n cadence detection en daardoor kan het overweg met alle mogelijke cadence formaten naast de klassieke 3:2 welke iedereen doet. Daardoor kent het ook geen delay alvorens de juiste cadence gevonden is :

Sometimes, TV stations accelerate their film-based movies and TV shows by dropping every twelfth field to make room for more commercials. This speedup is usually too small to be noticed by the average viewer, but these "vari-speed broadcasts" end up having unusual cadences such as 3:2:3:2:2. If a de-interlacer is unable to detect this sequence, as with most of the competition,  half the resolution is lost.

The variety of cadences does not end there. Professional DVCAM camcorders are increasingly used in television and film production. In order to maximize the recording time, these camcorders use a 2:2:2:4 cadence or a 2:3:3:2 cadence to store the progressive source signal as 480i on the tape. Animation gets even more creative with cadences ranging from 5:5 to 6:4 or 8:7 for Japanese anime.

Most competitors' processors compare the incoming fields and try to match them against known sequences such as 3:2 or 2:2 in order to select the right decoding. This works for the most part, but there can be a short delay before the processor is able to "lock on" and determine the right cadence. In addition, when the video processor encounters an unusual sequence such as animation or DVCAM, it may resort to discarding half the data if is a non-motion adaptive processor.

De Calibre Vantage-HD is al een behoorlijke tijd op de markt en heeft ook HQV. Alleen geen dubbele HDMI uitgang en minder ingangen. kost wel maar de helft...

En nu kan de Vantage HD ook 24p aan en zijn HDMI 1.3 ingangen voorhanden, dus weer helemaal up-to-date!

Nu we toch bezig zijn de lumagen is in beta en ze zijn geswitched van realta naar de genum en wel de nieuwste versie. Je kan hem kopen in 'beta' versie de verwachting is dat die over een paar maanden echt af is. Er is wel een nieuwe realta scaler in de vorm van de scaler van denon maar daar is nog niet super veel bekend van. Ook gaat deze week de nieuwe vp50pro van dvdo verscheept worden met hdmi1.3, hdsdi en veel andere grappen en grollen. Allemaal ergens tussen de 3500 en 4000 euro's. Zosnel ik de vp50pro binnen heb zal ik verslag uitbrengen hopelijk doen de andere dat ook maar ik ken niemand in nederland die al een beta versie van de lumagen heeft.

Verder zijn de HDMI poorten gewoon versie 1.1 en is ook de updatemogelijkheid naar nieuwere HDMI versies niet helemaal goed verwoord.  De Radiance heeft intern 3 boards: 1x het Gennum board, 1x de Lumagen FPGA en 1x audio-board.    Dus ja je kunt het apparaat wel updaten met nieuwere boards maar daar is voorlopig nog geen sprake van.

Er is al een forumlid die het ding in beta heeft.

Hai,

Sorry had beter moeten aangeven maar gezamelijk zijn we er toch weer uit , Ik volg de lumagen threads wel een beetje maar niet 100%. De luma lijkt een prachtig ding te worden maar het duurt allemaal best lang. Al deze scalers zijn best leuk maar ze hebben allemaal hun nukjes, De upgrade naar de vp50pro was voor mij weer het meest zinnige die heeft nu teminste de beloofde NR en Edge dingen.

Ik vraag mij af of THX Video nog echt dingen gaat toevoegen in deze wereld van displays en scalers wat denken jullie ? De eerste hints zijn dat ze toch flink wat dingen checken.

-MPEG mosquito and block artifact reduction
-Temporal noise reduction for SD/HD sources

Lumagen lijkt nu het Color Management System (CMS) aan de praat te hebben. Er zijn nog wat bugs, maar de huidige resultaten beginnen er op te lijken (meet technisch)
