SYNOPSIS: Luminous Motino is the story of paradise lost. Philip's childhood is the ultimate adolescent fantasy: a separate world where there are no boundaries between mother and son. But childhood can't remain the innocent and uncomplicated place that Philip would believe. As the film progresses, Philip encounters various forces that overwhelm his pure love for his mother. He struggles against the inevitable and fundamental human growth process: the experience and acceptance of separation and loss. Light and movement are the central elements of the film, both visually and thematically. When his mother's car crashes, Philip's entire world is destroyed. As he is recovering, inertia takes over and light itself changes. Colours become muted. His mother's homecoming is Philip's expulsion. Philip's losing battle eventually reveals the difficulty of holding onto a state of childhood innocence.
