The Hollywood System Gets Skewered in The Big Picture Kevin Bacon Stars in Christopher Guest's Satire, Coming to DVD on Oct. 8

Culver City, Calif. (July 31, 2002) - He's just a film-school student from Ohio, but when Nick Chapman makes it to Hollywood he's in for a new kind of learning in The Big Picture, debuting on DVD Oct. 8 from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment. Included on the DVD of The Big Picture is an exclusive audio commentary with director Christopher Guest (Best in Show, This Is Spinal Tap) and the film's star, Kevin Bacon (Hollow Man, Apollo 13), as well as scenes deleted from the lampoon of show business.
Bacon plays Nick, whose student film wins an award from the prestigious National Film Institute. Almost overnight, Nick finds himself swimming with sharks in Hollywood, where he's seduced by manic agents, power-happy producers and an irresistibly quirky friend played by Jennifer Jason Leigh (Road to Perdition). Featuring the sly irreverence that has become director Guest's trademark, THE BIG PICTURE is a funny and insightful cautionary tale about the excesses of greed and power. The Big Picture is loaded with surprising and humorous supporting roles and cameo appearances from familiar Hollywood faces, including Michael McKean (This Is Spinal Tap), Teri Hatcher (Tomorrow Never Dies), Martin Short (Innerspace), Fran Drescher (TV's The Nanny), Roddy McDowall (The Planet of the Apes), John Cleese (A Fish Called Wanda) and Elliott Gould (Ocean's 11). The DVD release of The Big Picture also provides filmographies and production notes that, combined with the special commentary and deleted scenes, allow an in-depth examination of the film.
