De Marantz AV7005 pre-processor is een AV voorversterker die bekend staat om zijn goede geluidskwaliteit. De AV7005 werd onder andere gebruikt door Cinemike als basis voor zijn gemodificeerde versies. Met de XLR uitgangen goed te gebruiken met high-end eindversterkers, lange kabellengtes of actieve luidsprekers.

De AV processor is natuurlijk niet de nieuwste meer, maar wel voorzien van moderne features zoals HDMI 1.4 ingangen en uitgangen, HDMI ARC en decodering van HD surround formaten. Kan daarmee in de juiste setup nog prima fungeren als een hoge kwaliteit AV processor. Ik heb hem bijvoorbeeld lang gebruikt met een Amazon Fire TV stick voor streaming, en hij pakt prima de DD+ stream van Netflix.

Deze AV7005 is voorzien van de destijds optionele AirPlay upgrade dus ook goed te gebruiken voor streamen van muziek.

Ik ben de eerste eigenaar van de AV7005 en heb deze in 2010 gekocht. Tussen 2013 en 2020 heeft de processor in een klimaat gecontroleerde opslag gestaan omdat ik in het buitenland woonde. Tussen april 2020 en oktober 2021 heb ik de processor weer gebruikt.

Wordt verkocht wegens downsize van mijn HT set-up. Met zoals altijd pijn in het hart, maar ik heb andere prioriteiten nu. Ook te combineren met de overige onderdelen van mijn HT set-up, zie de volgende advertenties:

De versterker staat in Amsterdam centrum, op nog geen 10 minuten rijden van de ring via een makkelijke uitvalsweg. Laden & lossen kan voor de deur bij een begane grond appartement. Op zondag kan je gratis parkeren op 5 minuten lopen als je eerst even rustig wil kijken. Dus maak er een leuk dagje Amsterdam van!

Hi, ja ik heb de Audyssey microfoon en de overige accessoires. Op de vierde foto zie je wat erbij komt (en natuurlijk de stroomkabel, die was ik vergeten op de foto te zetten).

Mbt de AV7005 vs de SR5007. Wat ik begrijp zijn veel van de componenten in het voorversterker deel hetzelfde tussen verschillende Marantz AV receivers en processors. Daarnaast heeft de AV7005 natuurlijk de XLR uitgangen.
Waar het voordeel is dat er geen eindversterker staat 'mee te draaien'. Daardoor is het signaal allemaal wat schoner, minder belasting van de voeding die dedicated en 'schoon' is voor de voorversterker.

Wat ervaringen

Perhaps this post is useless by now after some years, but in case anybody has the thoughts of buying one of these machines second hand, go for the AV7005. Although on paper they should be almost similar, the 1:1 test showed a clear difference.

Dont understand me wrong, the SR7005 is a fine machine and for those who have a decent set of speakers, it will do the job fine. But if you have more demanding speakers and also likes to listen to stereo (and obviously also the ears for it), skip the SR and go for the AV.

I mainly focussed on stereo listening and when using the SR just as a processor so connected via the RCA pre-outs to the same speaker/external amplifier setup (and the AV7005 also via RCA), there is quite a big differents in staging and clairty. The SR sounds less clean, even a bit compressed and has an unpleasant deeper vocal peak / accent.
Changing the RCA's for the balanced XLR on the AV7005 and also to the power amps, again a significant improvement. Much more detail, clairity, faster and controlled attack and overall depth.

Actually, I just got off the phone with talking with Marantz Japan HQ to find out the difference between the AV7005 and the AV receiver version, SR7005.

Answer: Basically, the internal amps and balanced circuitry.

I asked about the DACs, both the same.
Processors, both the same.
Power circuitry, both the same. Except that the AV7005 consumes less power since there is no internal amp.

So I presented a scenerio:

Me - "So let's say I buy an AV7005 and MM7055 (Marantz' power amp) combo. So would that combo compared to an SR7005+MM7055 sound the same?"
Marantz - "No. The SR7005 does not have a balance circuitry."
Me - "Right, I understand that part. But what if I compared connected the AV7005 to the MM7055 using the unbalanced RCA? Would that sound the same?"
Marantz - "No."
Me - "Why?"
Marantz - "Because even though the internal components are the same (DACs, power circuitry, etc), the AV7005's circuitry is a much cleaner path compared to the SR7005. The exclusion of the internal power amp, along with the extra isolation in the AV7005, will output a much cleaner signal compared to the SR7005.
Me - "Thank you very much."
Marantz - "You're welcome. I hope you can visit a dealer close to you soon so that you can compare the two and hear for yourself."
Me - "Thank you."
