Vragen van een complete leek

Ik ben toevallig op dit forum beland na het zoeken voor een nieuwe dvd/blurayspeler.
Een paar weken geleden heeft mijn 3-4 jaar oude DVD speler het begeven en ik zou graag volgende maand een alternatief zoeken.
Mijn eerste gedacht was om een bluray speler te kopen, maar toen belandde ik in dit forumgedeelte en heb ik blijkbaar serieus wat gemist...

Om mijn situatie te schetsen:
Ik ben een enorm film/serie/muziek fanaat met 2 volle externe schijven en tientallen dvds/dvdboxen van series.
Ik heb de voorbije jaren elke film op een analoge tv met oude dvd speler gekeken.
Het speelde divx af dus dat was voor mij genoeg :p.
Ik heb recent een 42 plasma aangeschaft en wil nu graag toch serieus wat upgrades doen op zowel audio & video vlak (speakers, versterker,  spelers ..).

Nu lees ik hier voor het eerst over het toestel "mediaspeler" en trek ik mijn ogen toch serieus open met de realisatie hoe wereldvreemd ik wel niet moet geweest zijn. Ik las een paar topics over de speler "Popcorn Hour C200" maar erg veel informatie zie ik niet meteen op hun officiele site.

Mijn vragen zijn nu:
Mediaspeler (zoals bv. de Popcorn hour C200?) kunnen eender welk filmformaat of audiotrack afspelen? DVD, Blu ray, xvid, mkv?
Ook las ik hier ergens iets van dat je je eigen harde schijf moet inbouwen? Hoe werkt dat juist?
Worden er nog schijfjes/discs gebruikt, zoja, kunnen dvdcollecties er dan opgezet worden of hoe werkt dat?
Bij de specificaties op de site lees ik dat je kan downloaden via usenet/bittorent op dat toestel? Misschien rare vraag maar hoe is dit mogelijk aangezien dat illegaal is?
Hoe zit het met ondertitels?

Oh jeetje, ik heb blijkbaar dringend veel in te halen en zal al eens beginnen met elke topic door te lezen :p

Ik weet niet precies alle details, maar heb de laatste tijd hier ook een beetje naar zitten kijken/zoeken en ik denk dat ik voor de HDI Dune BD Prime 3.0 zou gaan, volgens mij kun je daar zo goed als alles mee afspelen en hij heeft ook nog eens een bd speler aan boord.
