Takashi Miike's Critically-Acclaimed Audition Available On Video And Dvd May 7 From American Cinematheque Presents ... And Chimera Entertainment

Distributed By Ventura Distribution, Audition was Release Theatrically in 'O I by American Cinematheque presents ... in Association with Vitagmph Films

Thousand Oaks, CA, March 26, 2002 -- When a producer sets up a fake casting call to help his middle-aged friend search for a new wife, it turns into a hallucinatory nightmare of female revenge. Not for the weak of heart, Director Takashi Miike's (Dead or Alive) Audition makes its video and DVD debut May 7, from American Cinematheque Presents and Chimera Entertainment and distributed by Ventura Distribution. "While he packs a majorjolt for horror fans, Audition is actually carrying a critique of the lingering subordinate status of women in Asian society to its horrendous, hideous extreme," says The Los Angeles Times.

Deceptively innocent at first, Audition finds Aoyama (Ryo Ishibashi) middle-aged widower of many years, urged by his teenage son and film producer friend Yoshikawa (Jun Kunimur-a) to start dating again. Yoshikawa devises a plan to hold a phony Audition for a non-existent film. After interviewing 30 young hopefuls, Aoyama falls for the demure and alluring actress Asami (fashion model Eihi Shiina in her film debut), a former ballerina with a suspicious past. " ... a great, sick rush with a kicker on the level of 'The Vanishing," ...Audition doesn't let you down, but bring a strong constitution - like any Audition, it's a test of nerve," says The New York Times.

An American Cinematheque presents ... Vitagraph Films release, Audition was directed by Takashi Miike, produced by Akemi Suyama and Satoshi Hukushima, based on a story by Rvu Murakami.
