Het lijkt erop dat ook Paramount definitief voor Blu-ray gaat kiezen, ondanks dat men sinds vorig jaar exclusief 't HD DVD formaat ondersteund.

Dit zou definitief de doodsteek betekenen, al helemaal als Dreamworks - die toendertijd zowat tegelijkertijd exclusief voor HD DVD ging - zich ook exclusief aan 't Blu-ray formaat bind.
Zo'n clausule maakt 't makkelijk speculeren. Maar goed, waarom zou Paramount niet als ze meer winst kunnen maken. Tenzij ze echt menen dat HD DVD hen meer voordelen biedt. We zullen het zien.
CiteerUPDATE: We have received word from Paramount/DreamWorks that although they continue to support HD DVD, they will not be making any new high-def title announcements at CES 2008.
Paramount/DreamWorks responded to Warner's shift to Blu-ray exclusivity today, saying that the studios have no plans to abandon the HD DVD format.
Following Warner's shocking defection to Blu-ray last Friday, and the subsequent cancellation by the HD DVD Promotions Group of its planned CES media event Sunday night, speculation has run rampant regarding Paramount's next move, as well as the fate of any HD DVD title announcements they had originally planned for CES.
High-Def Digest contacted Paramount for comment, and we were told by a spokesperson that despite the events of the past few days, "we are still supporting HD DVD," and that neither Paramount nor DreamWorks had any further statements on the matter at this time.
As for any Paramount HD DVD title announcements originally planned for CES, at press time any such plans were "up in the air." Needless to say, we'll keep you posted.
Had ik net ook gelezen op 't AVSforum :) Ik vind 't idd. 'n slecht teken dat ze op de CES niks gepresenteerd hebben.
het was dus slechts een speculatie. Niet dat bovenstaand citaat zekerheid geeft hoor. Zou goed kunnen dat Paramount op korte termijn toch ineens met ander nieuws komt. Ze hebben alleen een contract met HD-DVD en als ze dat eerder verbreken zal er in de algemene voorwaarden van de overeenkomst tussen HD-DVD en Paramount wel staan dat Paramount een boetebedrag meot betalen ;D
Ik dacht overigens eind vorig jaar een stuk te hebben gelezen dat er een hoge Warner oom vertelde niet exclusief naar een bepaald formaat te stappen... dus wat er nu klopt van die Paramount ontkenning, time will tell ;-)

Precies, en voor hetzelfde geld stapt Warner zo weer terug als er financieel iets veranderd. ;)

'Volgens de Financial Times zou Paramount, dat vorig jaar voor HD-DVD koos, destijds hebben afgesproken dat het mocht overstappen op Blu-ray als Warner dat ook deed. Ook tekenfilmstudio DreamWorks, dat nauw met Paramount samenwerkt, heeft mogelijk een dergelijke clausule in zijn contract laten opnemen.'

De $150 millioen deal tussen Paramount en de HD-DVD groep heeft zowiezo een looptijd tot slechts eind 2008. Dus zullen de boekhouders van Paramount wel aan het werk zijn gezet om uit te rekenen wat het voordeligste is. Paramount zal wel geld moeten terugbetalen als het naar BR overstapt, lijkt me. Zó dom zal Toshiba/HD-DVD Groep toch niet geweest zijn?

Het gaat er niet altijd om wat er is afgesproken ;)
Maar zowieso: dit soort geruchten is natuurlijk killing voor HD-DVD
Laat het nu maar snel beslist zijn dan, kunnen we eindelijk gewoon alle titels aanschaffen zonder naar de hd-dvd afdeling te kijken en net die ene titel te willen hebben :P
Paramount heeft inmiddels officieel de geruchten tegengesproken voor dit moment....
'Paramount has officially issued its denial of the rumor -- originally printed in the Financial Times -- that it is very close to ending its exclusive support of HD DVD. The quick end to what had been reported as an 18-month agreement could be the result of a "get out" clause triggered by Warner Bros.' sudden departure from HD DVD releases. Whether this will follow last year's "Universal may switch" rumor, that didn't happen, or last month's "Warner may switch" rumor, that did, remains to be seen. Until we hear otherwise, Paramount, Transformers and Shrek are still HD DVD only, whether they like it or not.'
