Cirrus L. Announces Consumer Electronics Design & Applications Center in China.

Cirrus Logic Inc. has announced the grand opening of its new Cirrus Consumer Electronics Design and Applications Center in Shenzhen, China, extending its global leadership in digital entertainment electronics and reinforcing its presence in the fast growing DVD market in China. The center will provide support for Cirrus Logic's significant consumer electronics customer base in China, enhance support to certain key customers in the region, and expand its presence in the world's fastest growing electronic markets.

The Cirrus Logic Consumer Electronics Design and Applications Center currently serves as headquarters to approximately 65 workers, including 55 engineers and 10 sales representatives that provide account service and field application support. Cirrus will create 40 new jobs at the center for audio and video design engineers in the next year. The new facility is located on Shen Nan Road in Shenzhen -- next to Hong Kong and within 50 miles of Guangzhou, and is in close proximity to several important Cirrus Logic customers in the heart of southern China's consumer electronics manufacturing hotbed. Cirrus Logic is also using this opportunity to establish a local presence in order to provide audio/video design applications support to customers and distributors.

China, including Hong Kong, is the largest semiconductor market in the Asia Pacific region (not including Japan) registering $11.044 billion in sales in 2001, and is the fastest growing as well according to Gartner. The Cirrus Logic strategy capitalizes on what is an emerging strength of China's semiconductor industry in design. China is known for hosting companies that manufacture DVD players with 10.5 million players exported in 2001 according to CCID Consulting.
