Nieuwe video processor van DVDO: "EDGE".

Ik kwam deze vandaag pas tegen op avsforum.com. De nieuwe video processor van DVDO met dezelfde Anchor Bay ABT2010 'chip' als het huidige top model, de VP50 pro maar met wat uitgeklede functionaliteit:

The DVDO® EDGE™ $799 retail is an affordable high quality video processor and A/V hub that converts standard definition, high definition and PC signals from up to ten sources (including six HDMI 1.3 compatible devices) to any HDTV resolution up to 1080p. EDGE has a very intuitive user interface which makes installation a breeze. EDGE has two HDMI 1.3 outputs, one with audio and video and one with audio only to facilitate connections to an HDMI/DVI equipped display and HDMI AV Receiver. An optical audio output is available for older AV Receivers. A backlit universal remote control with a luxurious "soft-touch" finish is also included. The DVDO EDGE incorporates all of Anchor Bay's acclaimed Video Reference Series, VRS™, technologies on the ABT2010 ASIC, including:

Precision Deinterlacing™ – 480i/576i/1080i 10-bit Motion, Edge & Source Adaptive Deinterlacer
• Five-field motion adaptive deinterlacing
• Edge adaptive processing to produce smooth diagonal edges
• Three frame video processing delay (Max)
• Game Mode with very low latency (sub-1 frame delay)
• Arbitrary cadence detection (any:any) to detect non-standard cadences in input signals.

Leuk ding, mooie prijs... helaas niet weggelegd voor de CRT projector bezitters onder ons, aangezien er met de EDGE geen custom timings gemaakt kunnen worden. Gemiste kans denk ik...

Tuurlijk wel, er zijn nog zat uitzendingen op TV, download films etc. die via een scaler een goede winst halen.

DAARNAAST helpt een scaler ENORM als je moet downscalen voor een display (als je een goede scaler hebt tenminste).

Dat is jouw mening Ik vind beelden met natural motion achtige interpolatie er wel mooier uitzien, ik houd niet van de typische schokkerige filmlook.
Bovendien vroeg ik niet om een oordeel over dat soort technieken, ik vroeg of dit apparaat zoiets kan.

Nee, ik bedoel echt natural motion of soortgelijke technieken (IFC bij Panasonic, DMM bij mijn huidige Loewe).

Er bestaat hier een kastje voor. Ik heb 'm voorbij zien komen op dit forum. Ook heb ik in een review gelezen dat de resolutie hierdoor achteruit gaat. Helaas werkt dit kastje alleen met SD bronnen. Voor de PC heb ik Crystal Player gevonden welke aan 'Motion Morphing' doet, ook voor HD bestanden, helaas zonder ondersteuning voor ondertitels in mkv bestanden.

Ah ja, die Cinemateq heb ik wel eens eerder hier langs zien komen. Lijkt me echter inmiddels een wat verouderd apparaat, zowel qua aansluitingen als wat ie aan standaarden ondersteunt. Ze hebben dan wel een soortgelijk ding, maar die doet volgens mij niet echt aan motion interpolation.

Dee vraag was in het AVS forum ook gesteld, antwoord van Josh van ABT:
A 33% vertical stretch can be accomplished by using the Vertical Zoom control on the input.
Ik heb dit opgenomen in de wensenlijst, maar weet niet in hoeverre dit in een latere firmware beschikbaar komt.

Hierbij de reactie van ABT hierop:

2,35:1 won't be included on EDGE.
Although the 4:3 Letterbox button gives the desired results when the content is anamorphically encoded 2.35:1 content.
This includes anamorphically enhanced DVDs and all HD content/broadcasts.

Als ik me goed heb laten informeren moet de EDGE binnen ongeveer twee weken ook in Nederland leverbaar zijn.

Deze Edge heeft een ABT2010 chipset aan boord, die ook gebruikt wordt in Oppo's Blu-ray Disc speler BDP-83
