Four new AV Receivers this summerThe new AV receivers work seamlessly with our LX Line to deliver the ultimate picture and sound performance.

Each receiver provides the full impact of new uncompressed, multi-channel audio soundtracks available on Blu-ray.

You will get the impression of being at the front row of your favourite concert.

The SC-LX81 and SC-LX71 incorporate the combination of ICEpower analogue class D amplification with our legacy sound-tuning in collaboration with AIR Studios in London, to produce a sound quality that is truly unique.

The VSX-1018AH will be available in June; the VSX-LX51 in July.

The SC-LX71 and SC-LX81 will both be available later in the summer.

Features include:

Studio-quality sound at home
The SC-LX71 and SC-LX81 deliver robust, realistic sound quality as a result of our unique Direct Energy HD Amplifier with ICEpower technology. The result is HD surround sound at unprecedented efficiency levels.

You can take advantage of internal decoding of advanced audio formats (DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus) to finally enjoy a full HD viewing experience with rich sound that complements on-screen imagery.

The receivers feature Advanced MCACC tuning to ensure accurate, studio-quality surround sound, regardless of the room configuration, while Full Band Phase Control eliminates bass 'phase lag' often caused by low-frequency levels in 5.1 surround sound systems.

Neural-THX is included, allowing for content produced in two-channel stereo formats to be dispersed among 7.1 channel surround sound, as well as a sampling rate converter (SC-LX81), guaranteeing that full body sound arrives as intended by the sound engineer.

HD digital connectivity
Our new range brings HDMI 1.3a with support of 12-Bit Deep Colour to deliver a stellar picture from connected sources, with a wide variety of hues and shades.

The AV receivers are engineered for 1080p video processing and feature a Faroudja video scaler chip that ensures full 1080p 24 Hz performance. An incorporated audio enhancement feature with anti-jitter technology converts the HDMI signal to maintain the integrity of the sound conversion.

Pioneer audio synergy
We have created jitter-free playback and dynamic sound quality for music CDs.

When connected to a new Blu-ray Disc player via HDMI, the SC‑LX71 and SC-LX81 receivers playback CDs perfectly with the proprietary Precision Quartz Locking System (PQLS). The advanced feature synchronizes data coming from the Blu-ray Disc player to the receiver, providing you with a feeling of being in an auditorium enjoying your favourite band.

Networking your home
The SC-LX71 and SC-LX81 enhance your home theatre experience with the exclusive Home Media Gallery. Through the receiver, you can easily access and stream digital media files directly from a connected home PC or laptop computer with media server IP networking capability.

The function is compliant with Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), Windows Vista or Windows Media Connect, as well as Microsoft audio DRM technology.

You can freely navigate and select content from your iPod; each receiver has Advanced iPod Connectivity, the receiver's remote control and on-screen display.

Full custom-installation ready
Our LX Receivers are ready for custom installation in your home, thanks to the following features:

    * Multi-Zone, Multi-Source Capabilities allow the LX A/V Receivers to serve as the entertainment centrepiece of multiple rooms

Pioneer reveals 2008 Elite AV receiver family

by Darren Murph, posted May 7th 2008 at 9:00AM

You do know it's quite rude to stare, don't you? No worries -- we're pretty sure Pioneer fully expected its 2008 line of Elite AV receivers to catch a few eyes, much like its succulent Elite SC-09TX did last fall. The luxurious new crew consists of the Elite SC-07, SC-05, VSX-03TXH and VSX-01TXH, all of which were designed specifically to complement the second-gen KUROs and fresh new BD players. As expected, the whole lot handles internal decoding of DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution, Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus, not to mention support for 12-bit Deep Color and a Faroudja video scaler. If you're curious about dollars and ship dates, you can look for the SC-05 / SC-07 to land in August for $1,800 / $2,200, while the VSX-01TXH and VSX-03TXH will hit next month for $750 / $1,000. Then again, those obsessed with instant gratification could snag the VSX-94TXH right now for $1,600.

Pioneer Elite SC-Series A/V Receivers

by Nick Mokey

With the dizzying array of inputs, outputs, surround-sound certifications and endless gradations in sound quality available in home A/V receivers, it takes an expert to sort out exactly what you need and don't need for and given setup. You could, of course, wrestle with every option, price out dozens of different receivers, and compare cost versus quality for every single one, but if your goal is to cover all the bases, future-proof your system, and bring the cops to your house with house-rattling output, sometimes it might make sense to just go all-out.

If you end up taking that path, Pioneer's new SC-07 and SC-05 receivers, codenamed "Susano" during development, probably belong on the short list of receivers worth investigating. Both bring buckets of options, high-def sound, and next-gen media compatibility to the table, but without prices that rival those on economy cars.

At the core of the SC-series' capabilities as an audio receiver lies the Direct Energy HD Amplifier, a high-end Class D digital amplifier built with technology borrowed from Bang & Olufsen's ICEpower division. Pioneer claims the amp is so efficient that it wastes virtually no power, but retains the sound fidelity offered by less efficient amps. Notably, it's also the same style amp found in Pioneer's flagship SC-09TX.

As for that alphabet soup of surround standards, the Susano receivers support all of the latest, including DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution, Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus. Since the decoding process for each one is completely lossless, no sound data is lost while dicing up a signal into many different channels.

Like many other high-end receivers, the new SC models also support room tuning to tailor their output to the exact speaker setup and room configuration you find yourself with. The issue of "phase lag" or group delay, a problem that crops up when different frequencies seem to reach the ears at different times, has also been dealt with via Pioneer's Full Band Phase Control, which allows owners to compensate for it at the source.

Outside the receivers' features for improving quality, they've also been endowed with extra features for flexibility. The biggest is Pioneer's Home Media Gallery, a technology the company has been building into its newest A/V components (including Kuro plasmas) to pull digital content off of PCs and into the living room. After connecting the receiver to a compatible PC, it can push video or photos to a connected TV, and blast digital tunes on connected speakers, using a standard network connection. And if an iPod is more your style, the receivers also have Advanced Digital iPod USB connections for purely digital audio transfer, and Pioneer's Sound Retriever DSP technology to step up the playback quality of compressed music, like MP3s.

As a video receiver, the SC receivers are fully HDMI 1.3a compliant, and handle 12-bit color for improved color accuracy. The SC-07 even includes dual HDMI outputs for controlling TVs in two zones. Both receivers also include Faroudja scaler chips to bring all sources, including analog ones, up to 1080p resolution for output to high-def displays.

When the SC-05 and SC-07 become available in August, they will retail for $1,800 and $2,200, respectively. That places both in the upper pricing echelon of home A/V receivers, but not quite to the same outrageous level of Pioneer's SC-09TX, which retails for $7,000. If your goal really is a system that can do it all, one of Pioneer's new SC-series receivers are healthily equipped to handle the job.

We've already reviewed Pioneer's cracking new Blu-ray player, the BDP-LX71A. Now meet its natural surround receiver partner, the SC-LX81, a £1500 stunner that we reckon is Pioneer's most competitive in many a year.

As with many of its contemporaries in the 2008 Pioneer line-up, it's another great looker: in a class dominated by lantern-jawed, button-festooned behemoths, the SC-LX81's spare fascia and chic piano-lacquer finish is a breath of fresh air.

It's innovatively engineered too, using seven Bang & Olufsen's ICEpower Class D digital amp modules. This so-called "Direct Energy HD amplification" system is designed to deliver exceptionally fast response to the dynamic demands of modern surround soundtracks, plus plenty of power to cope with big volumes and demanding speakers.

Naturally, the Pioneer is packed with inputs: you'd expect nothing less at the price, although the presence of two HDMI outputs (for two separate screens) is a welcome, useful feature.

Support for all the HD audio formats
You'd also expect plenty of processing and decoding for your money, and the SC-LX81 doesn't disappoint on that front, either.

THX-certified, the Pioneer includes support for all the latest surround high-def audio codecs (Dolby TrueHD et al), and as with many others from the company stable in the last few years, it's been sonically fine-tuned with the help of Britain's own Air Studios.

It also features Network support, plus a dedicated Precision Quartz Locking System (PQLS) designed to optimise sonic performance when used with the BDP-LX71A by reducing jitter over HDMI.

So far so promising: the eagle-eyed will note the SC-LX81's technical commonalities with the mighty SC-LX90 'Susano', and we were thrilled by that mighty amp's delivery.

And in action, the SC-LX81 is almost as impressive, which is high praise indeed given how much cheaper it is than its sibling. It's incredibly fast and exciting to listen to, so agile and expressive even in the teeth of the surround sound storm.

Powerful, but subtle and expressive too
A forceful, punchy soundtrack like the DTS-HD score to the Master and Commander Blu-ray is an extraordinary listen through this receiver: cannon shots, in particular, have an almost physical presence, each pulsating discharge shattering the air around your sofa. You can't fail to flinch – which is, of course, exactly the director's intention.

Gratifyingly, the Pioneer has more to its locker than simple adrenaline-fuelled frenzy: it's as subtle and expressive as it needs to be, capturing the crackling tension of I Am Legend as eloquently as it relays the mania in Daniel Day-Lewis' voice during the explosive finale to There Will Be Blood.

Even music fares well, the SC-LX81 showing a far firmer grip of complex rhythms than many class rivals, as well as admirable insight.

Couple this capability to its obvious flexibility, style and quality, and you've a winning receiver. Pioneer is on a charge at the moment – the SC-LX81 will do its cause no harm at all.
