HDBaseT, de nieuwe standaard?

Ook hier op htforum.nl wordt al langer gesproken over HDbaseT die de nieuwe norm wordt.
In 2010 was er al deze topic: http://www.htforum.nl/yabbse/index.php?topic=102225.0. Met talrijke vermeldingen in de posts, maar behalve enkele pro oplossingen voor installaties was er nog geen enkele product die het standaard aanbod (een enkele pro-beamer daar gelaten).
Het ziet er naar uit dat de eerste consumer producten met HDBaseT eraan komen, want pioneer heeft in de US deze reciever voor 2013 uitgebracht:

Betekent het dat HDBaseT enkel een nieuwe standaard wordt voor multiroom, custom installers en lange afstandsdistributie van audio/video? Of zou HDBaseT ook in de gewone markt HDMI gaan vervangen?

What is HDBaseT?
HDBaseT is a connectivity standard for whole-home and commercial distribution of uncompressed HD multimedia content. The cornerstone of HDBaseT technology is 5Play™, a feature set that converges uncompressed full HD digital video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, power over cable and various control signals through a single LAN cable.

The HDBaseT 5Play™ feature set enables delivering the following over a single 100m / 328ft CAT5e / 6 cable:

Video

HDBaseT delivers full HD / 3D and 2K / 4K uncompressed video to a network of devices or to a single device (point-to-point ). Since the video is passed through the HDMI chipset, HDBaseT supports all key HDMI 1.4 features, including EPG, CEC, EDID, and HDCP. The unique video-coding scheme ensures the highest video quality at zero latency.

Audio

HDBaseT audio is also passed through directly from the HDMI chipset. HDBaseT audio supports all standard formats, including Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS HD-Master Audio.

Ethernet

HDBaseT supports 100Mb Ethernet, enabling communication between televisions, sound systems, computers, and other CE devices as well as access to any stored multimedia content (such as music or video streaming). HDBaseT also supports Ethernet Fallback Mode, which enables seamless integration between a HDBaseT device and an Ethernet-only infrastructure. In such a case, only the Ethernet capabilities of the connection are enabled.

Control

HDBaseT enables multiple control signals for multiple purposes: Consumer Electronic Controls (CEC), Recommended Standard (RS)-232, USB, and infrared (IR). IP control is also enabled due to the support of an Ethernet channel. HDBaseT's wide range of control options provides manufacturers with virtually endless opportunities.

Power

Up to 100W of DC power can also be delivered over the same CAT5e/6 cable. This major aspect of 5Play provides the freedom to place equipment where you want it and not where an available power source happens to be installed.

Het is bijna zo ver, HDBaseT zou tegen volgende maand erkend worden door IEEE.

Ook de UHD-HDR trein wenst de HDBaseT alliance niet te missen.
Eerder in oktober 2016 werd een demonstratie gegeven van de toekomstige HDBaseT-versie; die deze keer 18gbps zal ondersteunen (huidige HDBaseT 2.0 topt aan 10,2 gbps).

Aangezien dit topic ontzettend populair is ga ik erin verder...

Valens, the developer of HDBaseT and founder of the HDBaseT Alliance, has announced the availability of a reference design for HDBaseT transmission of full 18 Gbps HDMI 2.0, including 4K @ 60 4:4:4.

"This solution is also a precursor to the future HDMI 2.1 specification, which will use visually lossless compression to support the higher format resolutions."

The solution pairs Valens Colligo chipset (VS2310) with Lattice's chipsets (SiI9630, a low-power HDMI 2.0 transmitter and SiI9396, a low-power HDMI 2.0 receiver), to deliver a turnkey design for HDMI 2.0 4K60 4:4:4 video signal transmission.

Deze versie van HDBaseT zal dus niet meer lossless zijn. Ik vraag me af of het hier echt gaat om een HDBT 3.0 (ik las ergens aan 16gbps) of om HDBT2.0 met Tipping Point Compression (TPC). TPC is een technologie waarbij de compressie inschakelt wanneer je meer data wilt sturen dan er beschikbare bandbreedte is. Maw. tot 10.2 gbps (huidige HDBT2.0, HDMI1.4 norm) blijft het geheel zonder compressie, en vanaf dan hanteert de chip een compressie naargelang de bandbreedte (max 18gbps, HDMI2.0 norm).

En zo zie je maar, Kjelt krijgt uiteindelijk gelijk:

Dat is waar echter ik verwacht wel dat ze dit (HDBT)  TCP/IP (internet) compatible gaan maken omdat je nu al ziet dat televisies een tcp/ip aansluiting krijgen met allerlei browser functionaliteiten. Het zou mij niets verbazen als dit dan gedeeld wordt door alle apparaten (recorders voor tv programmagids functionaliteit etc.) maar goed we wachten af.

Dan heb je wel een dikke internet pijp nodig, 18 gbps is niet mis.

Tja de pro ip firmas gaan nu naar 25Gbps maar dat is uiterst kostbaar spul voor de consument die niet gewend is €2000 voor netwerk infrastructuur in huis aan te leggen.
Wellicht dat massaproductie veel voor de prijs kan betekenen, dat zou mooi zijn.

Ik blijf het vreemd vinden dat ze de decoders niet in de weergevers bouwen desnoods als los vervangbaar/upgradebaar decoderkastje. Korte afstanden tot twee meter zijn niet zo moeilijk voor hoge bitrates maar afstanden van tien, vijftien meter waar wij als projector liefhebbers mee te maken hebben is een heel andere uitdaging.

En dan heb je een versterker met HDBaseT en een situatie waarin je het wilt gaan gebruiken. Dan heb je een receiver nodig.  Er zijn er best te vinden maar die blijken erg duur of ondersteunen geen 4K.
Iemand hierin een advies?

HDBaseT 2.0 is een standaard, dus in principe zou elke receiver met dezelfde chip ook daadwerkelijk als receiver kunnen fungeren, ongeacht welke transmitter, extender, matrix of receiver je gebruikt.
Dus ook eentje van Gefen, Atlona, Wyrestorm, HDanywhere, Octava enz.

Let wel dat je voor 4K 10bit HDR (dus "18gbps" hdmi 2.0a) je niet alleen over een HDBaseT 2.0 device moet beschikken die HDCP 2.2, hdmi 2.0a ondersteunt, maar de extender moet ook een zogenaamde "invisible compression" gebruiken.

Het kanaal (de beschikbare bandbreedte in HDBaseT) is namelijk 10.2 gbps, dus moet het extra aan informatie een compressie ondergaan om door het kanaal te geraken. Aangezien deze techniek vrij recent (<1jaar) werd voorgesteld door Valens (de chipproducent en tevens voortrekker van de HDBaseT-kar), beginnen de toestellen nu pas op de markt te komen.

Ik zei "18gbps" omdat het in de werkelijkheid geen 18gbps is, je zou namelijk het audio gedeelte eruit kunnen halen en voor zover ik begrepen heb vervalt de ARC voorlopig ook als je een HDR-compatiebel HDBaseT extender gebruikt. Ik weet niet hoe het zit met CEC en ethernet, maar de meeste HDBaseT toestellen doen wel IR, RS232 en PoE (power over Ethernet).
